We should continue defending our children, particularly those in the womb – Archbishop

  Saint Nicholas' Chapel, Siggiewi

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

L-Evanġelju tal-lum ilaqqagħna ma’ persunaġġ li jintroduċina għall-miġja fil-qrib ta’ Ġesù. Ġwanni huwa dak li mibgħut qabel il-Mulej. Fil-fatt, wieħed mit-titli ta’ Ġwanni huwa l-Prekursur: dak li jiġi qabel il-Mulej.

L-Evanġelju ta’ San Ġwann jintroduċih b’titlu ieħor: il-Battista, għaliex introduċa dan ir-rit ta’ magħmudija fix-xmara Ġordan. Hu stess jgħid li huwa rit sinjal ta’ ndiema, li inti qed tagħraf dnubietek u titlob maħfra ’l Alla… Read more »

John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea (and) saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: “A voice of one crying out in the desert, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.’”

John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a leather belt around his waist… Read more »

The Lord gives us the light to make just choices – Archbishop

  Saint Catherine's Church, Zurrieq

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“F’dawk il-jiem deher Ġwanni l-Battista jipprietka fid-deżert” (Mt 3,1). L-Evanġelju ta’ San Mattew jagħti titlu lil dan iben ta’ Zakkarija u Eliżabetta, jgħidlu: ‘il-Battista’. Dan l-isem jingħata għaliex hu beda dan ir-rit tal-magħmudija ta’ ndiema, u kellu wkoll il-missjoni li jinawgura l-ħidma ta’ Ġesù, meta Ġesù mar għandu biex jitgħammed fl-ilma tal-Ġordan. Interessanti kif San Mattew mill-ewwel jgħidilna liema Ġwanni hu – Ġwanni l-Għammiedi, il-Battista… Read more »

Don’t we understand that the child in the womb has no voice? – Archbishop

“Ittamaw fil-Mulej għal dejjem għax il-Mulej hu l-blata ta’ dejjem” (Iż 26:4). Din hija l-profezija ta’ Iżaija li smajna fl-ewwel qari llum u bħalma għedna nhar it-Tlieta, il-qari tal-Evanġelju fl-ewwel parti tal-Avvent huwa l-milja, it-twettiq tal-profezija ta’ Iżaija.

Allura aħna nifhmu għaliex din il-profezija mill-kapitlu 26 ta’ Iżaija meta jistedinna biex nittamaw fil-Mulej għax il-Mulej hu l-blata ta’ dejjem, tfakkarna f’dak li Ġesù jgħid: Isma’, ibnu d-dar tagħkom fuq il-blat (ara Mt 7:24), anzi, Ġesù jispjegalna xi tfisser.

Ħa ngħidu ftit xi jkompli jgħid Iżaija: “lil min kien fl-għoli, niżżlu, il-belt imkabbra niżżilha, waqqagħha ’l isfel, fit-trab xeħitha” (Iż 26:5)… Read more »

Pastoral Note by the Bishops of Malta and Gozo

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception which we shall celebrate next Thursday, 8th December, is a very dear feast to us Maltese. It is a feast that gives an important message even by its very name which has such great meaning – “conception” – as it reminds us that we celebrate Mary from the moment of her conception. She is without stain from the first moment of her conception… Read more »
