Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli

Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, announced this morning the creation of a new Vatican home page that will serve as a “point of connection between several news production centers of the Holy See.”

The prelate made the announcement at a press conference during the presentation of the new high definition television unit of the Vatican Television Center.

Archbishop Celli said that the new multi-media Web site would bring together several sources of Vatican news,” such as the Vatican press office, L’Osservatore Romano newspaper, Vatican Radio, the Vatican Television Center and the Fides news service of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

Yet to be defined is the name of the page, as well as the timeframe for launching the new site.

It is a need “much felt by the workers,” said the archbishop, although he assured that the independence of each agency will always be maintained.
