News from the Church in Malta
On Friday 29th June 2012, the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. celebrated mass during which nine new priests were ordained (7 diocesan and 2 religious), at St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.
The new priests are:
Il-Papa Benedittu XVI ilbieraħ, festa ta’ San Pietru u San Pawl, innomina lill-Patri Joe Alessandro OFM Cap bħala Isqof Koadjutur ta’ Garissa fil-Kenja.
“In-nomina ta’ Isqof Kapuċċin Malti fil-Kenja hi aħbar sabiħa għalina l-Maltin,” qal Patri Martin Micallef OFM Cap, Segretarju Provinċjali, lil IL-ĠENSillum online.
“Dan fil-fatt hu t-tielet Isqof Kapuċċin Malti li qed jaħdem fil-Kenja, wara Mons Pawlu Darmanin, Mons Emanuel Barbara.”

Vocations
It is expected that 38 men will be ordained for the priesthood in England and Wales in 2013, nearly double the number of ordinands in 2011, when 20 were ordained.
The Catholic Herald reported the projections, noting that the number of seminarians in the Archdiocese of Southwark alone (26) has more than doubled since 2005, when it had only 10.
The Southwark Vocations website states that a “campaign of prayer for vocations has coincided with a dramatic increase in the number of men coming forward as potential candidates for the priesthood.”
The vocations director for the archdiocese spoke of distributing prayer cards for the rosary and encouraging each parish to hold Holy Hours of prayer, the Catholic Herald reported… Read more »

Appeal for free treatment to AIDS' patients
Benedict XVI’s secretary of state called today for access to free treatment for AIDS, as he gave the opening address at the 8th International AIDS Conference.
The event, being held at the San Gallicano Institute in Rome, has the theme “Long live mothers and children.”

The BOV Volleyball Marathon in aid of Dar tal-Providenza will kick off today at 6pm. The 53 hours non-stop volleyball Marathon, which will be held at the Car Park of the same Dar tal-Providenza will come to an end at midnight on Saturday.
The marathon will be inaugurated by H.E. The President, Dr. George Abela.

Pope in audience
The Letter to the Philippians which, the Holy Father said, is in some way St. Paul’s “spiritual last will and testament”, was the theme of his catechesis during the general audience, which was held this morning in the Paul VI Hall.

Pope with Grand Master of Malta
At the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI on Monday received the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Fra’ Matthew Festing, accompanied by the Order’s Sovereign Council. The traditional audience took place on the occasion of the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, the patron of the Order.
