On Sunday, 18 January, Christians all over the world will celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which concludes on Sunday, 25 January 2026. In Malta, a Diocesan Ecumenical Service will be held on Friday, 23 January 2026 at 6:30pm at the Basilica of St Paul in Rabat. On this occasion, leaders of other Churches present in our country, Orthodox and Protestant, will take part.

The service will be led by Archbishop Charles Scicluna, while the reflection will be delivered by Bishop Andrej of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Italy, Switzerland, and Malta.

During this week, the different Churches come together in ecumenical prayer so that unity among Christians may be achieved. The theme chosen for this year is taken from the Letter of St Paul to the Ephesians: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope” (Eph 4:4).

The theme and prayer material for this year were prepared by an ecumenical group in Armenia.

It is the duty of every Christian to pray for unity among the divided Churches. This ecumenical commitment forms part of the Church’s mission, especially since the time of the Second Vatican Council. Everyone is invited to the Diocesan Ecumenical Service, which will last about one hour.
