A gift and a mystery – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the solemnity of Corpus Christi

The Collegiate Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Senglea

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Kif jista’ dan jagħtina ġismu biex nikluh?” (Ġw 6:52). Din hija l-mistoqsija li għamlu dawk li kienu qed jisimgħu lil Ġesù, u jidher ċar li fehmu tajjeb x’qed jgħid Ġesù. Ma kienx qed jitkellem fuq xi ħaġa li se jagħtihom biex iżommuha b’tifkira jew b’simbolu, imma kien qed jitkellem realment fuq li se jagħti lilu nnifsu proprju fl-Ewkaristija. U dak inhar diversi nies li semgħuh ma fehmux kif dan kien possibbli, anzi ftit wara din is-silta hemm ir-reazzjoni tan-nies li jgħidu: dan tqil wisq biex tifhmu! … Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 8th June

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Kings 17:1-6
Responsorial: Psalm 120 (121):1-2,3-4,5-6,7-8

Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12

Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Read more »
