Psalm: 145 (146):5-6,7,8-9a,9bc-10

Gospel: Matthew 22:34-40

In those days, when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”

He said to him, ” “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Pope at Audience: Let us learn to go to the Mother with the difficulties of life

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

In our journey of rediscovering the passion for proclaiming the Gospel, that apostolic zeal; seeing how this passion to proclaim the Gospel has developed in the history of the Church; on this path, we look today to the Americas, where evangelisation has an ever vital source: Guadalupe – the Mexicans are happy. Of course, the Gospel had already reached there prior to those apparitions, but unfortunately it had also been accompanied by worldly interests… Read more »

In those days, Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, “Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!” Nathanael asked him, “Where did you get to know me?”

Jesus answered, “I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Nathanael replied, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! … Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 23rd August

Readings of the day

First Reading: Judges 9:6-15
Psalm: 20 (21):2-3,4-5,6-7

Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16a

In those days, Jesus told his disciples this parable: “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire labourers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the labourers for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. When he went out about nine o’clock, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and he said to them, “You also go into the vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went. When he went out again about noon and about three o’clock, he did the same. And about five o’clock he went out and found others standing around; and he said to them, “Why are you standing here idle all day?’ They said to him, “Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, “You also go into the vineyard.’

When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, “Call the labourers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and then going to the first.’ When those hired about five o’clock came, each of them received the usual daily wage.

Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received the usual daily wage. And when they received it, they grumbled against the landowner, saying, “These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’

But he replied to one of them, “Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what belongs to you and go; I choose to give to this last the same as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? … Read more »

So our song won’t be a noose around our necks – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Ikollok teżor fis-sema” (Mt 19:21). Dan hu l-kliem li jgħid Ġesù lil daż-żagħżugħ, kif smajna fl-Evanġelju llum, li jistaqsieh x’għandu jagħmel biex jikseb il-ħajja ta’ dejjem. Innutaw il-mistoqsija ta’ dan iż-żagħżugħ. Ma kinetx biss: x’għandi nagħmel biex ngħix ħajja tajba u nkun kuntent? Imma: “biex nikseb il-ħajja ta’ dejjem” (Mt 19:16).

Kienet mistoqsija importanti, li turina li dan iż-żagħżugħ kien jemmen fil-ħajja ta’ dejjem… Read more »
