Faith in the living Son of God – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  Parish Church, Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Waħda mill-espressjonijiet li kultant nisimgħu hi: “in-nies dejjem għandhom raġun”. Meta jkun hemm xi surveys li juri n-nies x’jaħsbu, ikun hemm dal-kumment kultant: in-nies dejjem għandhom raġun. Li tgħid li dejjem hemm raġuni għal dak li jaħsbu n-nies hu veru, imma li tgħid li n-nies, f’dak li jaħsbu, dejjem għandhom raġun, hu falz.

L-Evanġelju tal-lum jurina, fil-fatt, kemm dan hu żbaljat… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Who is Jesus for me?

  Saint Peter's Square, The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today in the Gospel (cf. Mt 16, 13-20), Jesus asks the disciples a good question: “Who do men say that the Son of man is?” (v.13).

It is a question we too can ask: what do the people say about Jesus? In general, good things: many see him as a great teacher, as a special person: good, righteous, consistent, courageous… But is this enough to understand who He is, and above all, is it enough for Jesus? … Read more »

The Archbishop questions, “How often has our heart sought solace amidst the world’s frivolities?”

Mass on the 21st Sunday of Ordinary Time

Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, Ħal Lija

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Dan l-Evanġelju huwa importanti għal diversi raġunijiet. L-ewwel nett għal żewġ kelmiet li jintroduċi San Mattew fil-kapitlu 16. Din is-silta aħna nużawha ta’ spiss, forsi mingħajr ma naħsbu s-sinifikat tagħom.

Lil Ġesù ta’ Nazaret, bin Ġużeppi l-mastrudaxxa u Marija, ngħidulu Ġesù Kristu. ‘Kristu’ mhuwiex il-kunjom ta’ Ġesù imma huwa t-titlu li bih jagħrfu u jindikah Pietru fl-Evanġelju tal-lum… Read more »

God will free you – Archbishop

  Saint Catherine's Monastery, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġesù juża żewġ tixbihat fl-Evanġelju li għadna kemm smajna: it-tixbiha tal-imfietaħ u t-tixbiha tal-blata. L-imfietaħ huma dawk li jagħtuna aċċess, li jiftħulna ambjent, imma huma wkoll għodda biex issakkar. Hu jagħti din il-qawwa, il-qawwa tal-imfietaħ, lill-Knisja fil-persuna ta’ Pietru. Aħna, meta nqimu u nagħtu proprju ubbidjenza lill-ministeru tal-Papa, is-suċċessur ta’ San Pietru, nagħmlu hekk għax hu qiegħed jeżerċita poter, qawwa spiritwali f’isem il-Knisja… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 26th August

Readings of the day

First Reading: Ruth 2:1-3,8-11; 4:13-17
Psalm: 127 (128):1-2,3,4,5

Gospel: Matthew 23:1-12

In those days, Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of others; but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them They do all their deeds to be seen by others; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long. They love to have the place of honour at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have people call them rabbi.

But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all students. And call no one your father on earth, for you have one Father—the one in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Messiah. The greatest among you will be your servant. All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.  Read more »
