The Gospel of the day: 28th April

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 9:1-20
Psalm: 116 (117):1,2

Gospel: John 6:52-59

In those days, the Jews disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.

Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died… Read more »

Pope at Audience: We are all sinners

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

Let us continue our catechesis on the witnesses of apostolic zeal. We started with Saint Paul, and last time we looked at the martyrs, who proclaim Jesus with their lives, to the point of giving their lives for Him and for the Gospel. But there is another great witness that runs through the history of faith: that of the nuns and monks, sisters and brothers who renounce themselves and who renounce the world to imitate Jesus on the path of poverty, chastity, and obedience, and to intercede on behalf of all… Read more »

Synod: Laymen and laywomen eligible to vote at General Assembly

Neither the nature nor the name is changing—which remains the Synod of Bishops—but the composition of the participants in the October 2023 General Assembly in the Vatican on the theme of synodality is set to change, since a sizeable group of “non-bishop” members will also take part.

These 70 individuals will include lay people appointed directly by the Pope, 50 percent of whom shall be women and among whom shall be included several young people… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 27th April

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 8:26-40
Psalm: 65 (66):8-9,16-17,20

Gospel: John 6:44-51

In those days, Jesus said to the crowd: “No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, “And they shall all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father.

Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven… Read more »

Why should we struggle – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Kiltu mill-ħobż u xbajtu.” Dan huwa l-kliem li jgħid Ġesù lil dawn in-nies li ħadu biċċa xogħol biex jaslu sa fejnu. Dawn in-nies qagħdu jistennew fejn il-baħar biex jaraw Ġesù jinżilx minn xi dgħajsa, u meta ndunaw li ma niżilx Ġesù, ħadu huma d-dgħajjes biex imorru jfittxuh. U sabuh f’Kafarnahum. Qalulu: “meta ġejt hawn?” (Ġw 6:25) U Ġesù jgħidilhom: “…intom qegħdin tfittxuni mhux għax rajtu sinjali, imma għax kiltu mill-ħobż u xbajtu” (Ġw 6:26)… Read more »

Gospel: John 6:35-40

In those days, Jesus said to the crowd, “I am the bread of life. Publius shows us how to cherish life with love – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Parish Church of St Publius, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Ngħożżu l-ħajja bl-imħabba.” Kieku kelli niġbor fi ftit kliem il-messaġġ qawwi li jagħti San Publju lilna llum hu propju biex aħna ngħożżu l-ħajja bl-imħabba.

Publju kien il-prinċep tal-gżira, l-ewwel wieħed, l-iktar bniedem b’responsabbiltà. U dak li jagħmel hu, irrakkuntat fl-Atti tal-Appostli, hu ta’ ispirazzjoni għal kull min għandu, b’xi mod jew ieħor,  responsabbiltà tat-tmexxija: għal min hu responsabbli mit-tmexxija ta’ pajjiżna, għal min hu responsabbli mit-tmexxija tal-Knisja, imma wkoll għal min b’xi mod jew ieħor għandu responsabbiltà tat-tmexxija, hi ta’ liema tip hi.

Nixtieq li nħarsu lejn Publju u naraw kif jagħti ispirazzjoni sabiħa lilna lkoll, imma b’mod partikolari wkoll lil min f’xi mument jew ieħor fil-ħajja jkollu responsabbiltà tat-tmexxija… Read more »
