Hundreds attend Christ the Redeemer procession in Senglea

Archbishop Charles celebrated Mass on the feast of Christ the Redeemer in Senglea on Sunday afternoon. Mass was followed by a procession around the streets of Senglea during which prayers were recited for the country, the Church, and for vocations.

This was the first time the procession behind the statue of Christ the Redeemer was held in Senglea since 2019.

Earlier this week, the Archpriest of Senglea, Rev… Read more »

The law of patience and forgiveness – The Archbishop on the feast of the Redeemer

Mass and procession on the feast of the Redeemer

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Meta Ġesù qorob għalih iż-żmien li fih kellu jittieħed mid-dinja” (Lq 9:51). Hekk jibda l-Evanġelju tal-lum. Qegħdin fil-kapitlu 9 ta’ San Luqa. San Luqa diġà jibda jkellimna fuq il-mument meta Ġesù jittieħed mid-dinja bil-passjoni ħarxa tiegħu, bil-mewt tiegħu fuq is-salib. Hu l-mument li nfakkruh b’din l-istatwa għażiża tar-Redentur. Wasal iż-żmien li jitgħabba bil-mard tagħna, bid-dnubiet tagħna, litteralment iġorrhom fuq spallejh… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Only through dialogue can social peace be achieved

  St Peter's Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

The Gospel for this Sunday’s Liturgy tells us about a turning point. This is what it says: “When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he made a resolute decision to set his face to go to Jerusalem” (cf. Lk 9:51). Thus he begins his “great journey” toward the Holy City which required a special decision because it was his last one… Read more »

Rejection, commitment and perseverance – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

Hemm tliet kelmiet li jiġbru din il-ġrajja li smajna llum fl-Evanġelju skont San Luqa, fejn lil Ġesù nsibuh b’rieda sħiħa miexi lejn Ġerusalemm. Huma kelmiet li huma ta’ għajnuna għalina li rridu nkunu dixxipli ta’ Ġesù, u nimxu warajh.

Hemmhekk ma laqgħuhx

L-ewwel nett il-kelma ‘rifjut’. Naqraw fl-Evanġelju l-kliem “Hemmhekk ma laqgħuhx”. Dan hu x’ġaralu Ġesù meta hu u sejjer lejn Ġerusalemm, ried jgħaddi f’raħal tas-Samarija… Read more »

Gospel: Matthew 8:18-22

When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side. A scribe approached and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.”

Another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.” But Jesus answered him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”

The Lord comes with the power of his mercy – The Archbishop

Mass on the feast of the birth of St John Baptist

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Huma diversi l-mumenti meta fit-talb tal-Knisja nsibu lil Ġwanni, it-tifel ta’ Żakkarija u ta’ Eliżabetta bħala l-protagonist jew wieħed mill-protagonisti. Illum qed niċċelebraw it-twelid tiegħu imma l-ewwel darba li niltaqgħu miegħu, għadu tarbija fil-ġuf, fil-festa tal-Viżitazzjoni, meta Marija maret iżżur il-qariba tagħha Eliżabetta. It-tarbija li kellha Eliżabetta fil-ġuf, li llum niċċelebraw it-twelid tagħha, qabżet bil-ferħ malli semgħet il-vuċi ta’ Marija ssellem lil Eliżabetta, xi ħaġa li Eliżabetta stess tgħid: “Malli smajt it-tislima tiegħek, it-tarbija li għandi fil-ġuf qabżet bil-ferħ” (Lq 1:44)… Read more »

The Church belongs to Jesus not us – The Archbishop

Solemn translation with the first vespers and mass on the eve of the feast of the birth of St John the Baptist

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Qabel il-miġja ta’ Ġesù, Ġwanni deher ixandar magħmudija ta’ ndiema lill-poplu kollu ta’ Iżrael. U meta kien wasal fi tmiem il-ħidma tiegħu, Ġwanni qal: “Jien m’iniex dak li intom taħsbu li jien. Imma, araw, warajja ġej wieħed li jien lanqas ma jistħoqqli nħoll il-qorq ta’ riġlejh” (Atti 13:25). Dan il-vers mill-ktieb tal-Atti tal-Appostli jiġbor l-ispirtwalità ta’ San Ġwann il-Battista li tiegħu qed niċċelebraw it-twelid… Read more »

The sad fate of unwanted human beings – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Message by Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi

Over 380 so-called “normal” human embryos have been cryopreserved since the embryo freezing law came into effect in 2018. The fate of these embryos is still uncertain. The recently proposed Bill to introduce pre-implantation genetic testing for monogenic diseases (PGTM) involves the testing of early embryos to detect particular genetic diseases. Embryos found to carry these genetic variants are to be frozen indefinitely… Read more »
