The Jubilee CCEE Assembly in Rome from 23 to 26 September 2021

This year, the Council of the European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) celebrates its 50th anniversary: it was established in March 1971 and subsequently approved by St Paul VI. To celebrate this jubilee event, the annual CCEE Plenary Assembly will take place in Rome from 23 to 26 September 2021 with the participation of the Presidents of the Bishops’ Conferences from across Europe.

Founded as a body of communion between the European Bishops’ Conferences, with the aim of promoting and safeguarding the good of the Church, for 50 years CCEE has been committed, according to its statutes, to “exercising collegiality in hierarchical communion cum et sub romano pontefice; a closer communication and co-operation between bishops and the bishops’ conferences of Europe in order to promote and inspire the work of new evangelisation; to contribute to the ecumenical dialogue for Christian unity; to offer an ecclesial witness in European society”… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 7th September

Readings of the day

First Reading: Col 2, 6-15
Psalm: 144 (145), 1-2.8-9.10-11

Gospel: Lk 6, 12-19

During those days Jesus+ went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them.  Read more »

Mother Teresa: cherishing life with love – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the feast of St Teresa of Calcutta

The Collegiate of the Immaculate Conception, Cospicua

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Għadni kif kont qed nara, illum wara nofsinhar fuq TV2000, parti minn filmat fuq Madre Tereża. Kull darba li nsegwi l-ħajja tagħha, tolqotni kif b’mod radikali għexet dal-kliem ta’ Ġesu: “Kulma għamiltu mal-iżgħar fost dawn ħuti, għamiltuh miegħi” (Mt 25:40). Meta niftakru fil-ħajja ta’ Madre Tereża u dak kollu li għamlet, jolqotna kif kienet totalment dedikata biex isservi lil Kristu qalb l-ifqar fost il-fqar… Read more »

Fundraising campaign for Afghanistan and Haiti victims

Caritas Malta calls for humanitarian response

Fuq talba tal‑Isqfijiet ta’ Malta u Għawdex, Caritas Malta f’kollaborazzjoni ma’ Caritas Internationalis qed tappella għad‑donazzjonijiet ta’ flus b’risq il‑poplu tal‑Afganistan u dak tal-Ħaiti, li qed ibatu minħabba ċirkustanzi li għaddej minnhom pajjiżhom. F’dawn iż‑żewġ pajjiżi għadd kbir ta’ persuni qed jgħaddu minn ħafna tbatija u biża’ wara li tilfu djarhom u spiċċaw mingħajr ikel u affarijiet bażiċi sanitarji fost diffikultajiet oħra.

Fl‑Afganistan, eluf ta’ persuni qed jippruvaw jaħarbu minn pajjiżhom wara li t‑Talibani reġgħu ħadu kontroll tal‑pajjiż… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Healing of the heart begins with listening

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

The Gospel for today’s liturgy presents Jesus who heals a deaf man with a speech impediment. What is striking about this story is how the Lord performs this prodigious sign. He took the deaf man aside, put his finger into the man’s ears, and touched his tongue with saliva. Then he looked up to heaven, groaned, and said to him: “Ephphatha”, that is, “Be opened!” (cf Mk 7:33-34)… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 6th September

Readings of the day

First Reading: Col 1, 24 – 2, 3
Psalm: 61 (62), 6-7.9

Gospel: Lk 6, 6-11

On another sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him to see whether he would cure on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him.

Even though he knew what they were thinking, he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” He got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to destroy it?” After looking around at all of them, he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

Listening and speaking with God in mind – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Church of the Nativity of Our Lady, Ħal Qormi

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Naħseb ħadd minna hawnhekk f’din il-knisja ma jiftakar il-ġurnata tal-magħmudija, għax ħafna minna konna żgħar, u ħafna minn dawn li qed isegwuna wkoll. Imma ġieli attendejna ċelebrazzjoni tal-magħmudija. Fost ir-riti differenti fiċ-ċelebrazzjoni tal-magħmudija, hemm  mument minnhom meta l-qassis iqiegħed idu fuq il-widnejn u l-fomm tat-tarbija – xi ħaġa li f’dan iż-żmien tal-pandemija ma nistgħux nagħmluha, minħabba l-miżuri għalissa, imma r-rit normali hu hekk – u jgħid hekk: “Sidna Ġesù, li ta s-smigħ lit-torox u l-kelma lill-imbikkmin, jagħti lilek ukoll il-grazzja li ma ddumx ma tkun tista’ tisma’ b’widnejk il-kelma tiegħu u tilqagħha, u tistqarr bil-fomm il-fidi tiegħek biex tfaħħar u ssebbaħ lil Alla l-Missier.” Dan hu l-kliem li jgħid il-qassis f’dal-mument tal-magħmudija… Read more »

Mass on the centenary from the solemn coronation of the titular statue of Maria Bambina

The Minor Basilica of the Nativity of Virgin Mary, Senglea

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Dan l-innu hekk sabiħ u sinifikattiv ta’ mitt sena ilu illum, miktub mill-Poeta Nazzjonali Dun
Karm Psaila, li dis-sena f’Ottubru nfakkru l-150 sena mit-twelid tiegħu, u mmużikat mis-
Surmast Ġużeppi Caruana, għadu jqajjem emozzjonijiet kbar mitt sena wara fost il-poplu tal-
Isla. Bir-raġun, għax l-inkurunazzjoni ta’ Marija Bambina, Sultana tal-Vittorji – ġrajja
importanti għall-Isla u għall-Knisja f’Malta – hija mnaqqxa fil-memorja tal-poplu… Read more »
