World Mission Sunday 2021

The month of October is annually dedicated to the missions. Mission Month starts with “1st of October which was the feast of Saint Therese of Lisieux, the patron of missions and the second last Sunday is World Mission Sunday. This is an opportunity to pay special attention to the importance of sharing faith in mission.” (Msgr. Valentino Borg, National Director of Missio Malta).

The message that Pope Francis chose for this year is inspired from the biblical scripture ACTS 4:20 ‘We cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard’ (Acts 4:20).

“This makes us first try to understand how we can be witnesses to the Gospel and how we can be prophets of God. The love of God that we see so beautiful in Jesus, is not words in the air but is a concrete love”, (Dun Victor Agius, Assistant Director Missio Malta) where we as disciples and testimonials of this love, are all called to be missionaries, to spread this love of Jesus to others by speaking of what we have heard in the Gospels. Pope Francis tells us: “… let us marvel, be amazed, and above all dream… Read more »

Gozo land facts

Article written by Michael Pace Ross, Administrative Secretary of the Archdiocese of Malta

The Church has unwittingly got caught up in a controversy surrounding a decision by the Land Registration Agency to permit the registration of tracts of land in Gozo which left residents uncertain over whether they have legal title to their homes.

This land was registered in the name of the Abbazia San Antonio Delli Navarra Foundation, established by noblewoman Cosmana Cumbo Navarra in 1675, following the publication of a 2019 legal notice declaring these tracts as land registration areas… Read more »

Gospel: Mk 10:46-52

In those days, as Jesus, his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.

Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way… Read more »

Choosing the right thing to do – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Għala ma tiġġudikawx intom stess x’inhu s-sewwa?” Dan hu l-kliem li Ġesù qal lin-nies meta kien qed jilmenta magħhom li kienu kapaċi jaqraw is-sinjali tat-temp – se tagħmel ix-xita, jew se tkun sħana – imma mhux is-sinjali taż-żminijiet. Hawnhekk jagħmel l-enfasi fuq “x’inhu s-sewwa”.

Nafu li mhix l-ewwel darba li Ġesù jitkellem fuq x’inhu s-sewwa. Fl-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann għandna enfasi partikulari fuq is-sewwa, fuq il-verità… Read more »

In those days, there were some present who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. He asked them, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were worse sinners than all other Galileans? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as they did. Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam fell on them—do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others living in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish just as they did.”

Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. So he said to the gardener, “See here! … Read more »

Mass and book inauguration of 'Sliem Għalik Ġużeppi Bin David' by Fr Martin Mamo

The Parish Church St Joseph, Kalkara

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġesù jitkellem fuq qaddej fidil u għaqli. Il-Papa Franġisku, meta tana dokument sabiħ fuq San Ġużepp għal din is-sena ddedikata lilu, ħin minnhom jgħidilna li Ġesù tgħallem xi tfisser il-fedeltà u xi jfisser l-għaqal li hu nnota kif kienu jgħixu Marija u Ġużeppi. Kif tgħallem ukoll il-bżulija, l-onestà, is-sens tal-ġustizzja li jmur lil hemm mil-liġi. U nimmaġinah meta kiber u qed jipprova jgħallem lid-dixxipli tiegħu kif tkun qaddej fil-komunità, nimmaġinah jaħseb f’ommu u f’dak li għad-dinja kollha kien missieru: San Ġużepp, il-qaddej fidil u għaqli… Read more »
