The price we pay to follow Jesus – The Archbishop

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

M’aħniex imdorrijin nisimgħu lil Ġesù jitkellem iebes bħalma nsibuh fl-Evanġelju tal-lum. Dan għaliex anke t-tislima tiegħu bħala l-Irxoxt hija “il-paċi magħkom” u fl-Evanġelju ta’ San Ġwann kemm-il darba jgħidilna “nagħtikom il-paċi tiegħi”. Din aħna nfakkruha f’kull quddiesa. Minn hawn u ftit ieħor se ngħidlkom “il-paċi tal-Mulej tkun dejjem magħkom, agħtu l-paċi lil xulxin”. Anke għaliex infakkru li din il-paċi, li fil-liturġija ngħidulha ‘sliem’ jew ‘paċi’, għandna żewġ kelmiet, hija verament don kbir ta’ Alla… Read more »

  The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

In these days we are talking about the freedom of faith, listening to the Letter to the Galatians. But I was reminded of what Jesus was saying about the spontaneity and freedom of children, when this child had the freedom to approach and move as if he were at home… And Jesus tells us: “You too, if you do not behave like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven”… Read more »

Youth involvement greater at the community level than in politics

Research by DISCERN on trends among youth

A survey showed that youth have a greater probability of involving themselves at the community level than in politics. Their interest in politics decreases as they grow older. The survey also showed that female youth look at community engagement in a more positive light and participate more than male youth in community initiatives and activities.

This research study was conducted by DISCERN, the institute for research on the signs of the times, among 498 youth aged between 16 and 25 years… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 20th October

Readings of the day

First Reading: Rom 6, 12-18
Psalm: 123 (124), 1-3.4-6.7-8

Gospel: Lk 12, 39-48

In those days, Jesus said to his disciples: “But know this: if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.”

Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for everyone?” And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and prudent manager whom his master will put in charge of his slaves, to give them their allowance of food at the proper time? Blessed is that slave whom his master will find at work when he arrives.

Truly I tell you, he will put that one in charge of all his possessions. But if that slave says to himself, “My master is delayed in coming,’ and if he begins to beat the other slaves, men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour that he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and put him with the unfaithful.

That slave who knew what his master wanted, but did not prepare himself or do what was wanted, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know and did what deserved a beating will receive a light beating… Read more »
