The Gospel of the day: 27th May

Readings of the day

First Reading: Sir 42, 15-26
Psalm: 32 (33), 2-3.4-5.6-7.8-9

Gospel: Mk 10, 46-52

In those days, as Jesus together with his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way… Read more »

Pope at audience: Your prayers are being heard, do not give up

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

There is a radical objection to prayer, which derives from an observation that we all make: we pray, we ask, and yet sometimes our prayers seem to go unheard: what we have asked for – for ourselves or for others – is not fulfilled. We have this experience, very often… If the reason for which we prayed was noble (such as intercession for the health of a sick person, or for the end of a war, for instance), the non-fulfilment seems scandalous… Read more »

“We have a great thirst for peace and joy” – The Archbishop

Mass for educators and teachers

Ta' Pinu National Shrine, Għarb, Gozo

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“M’għandhomx inbid” (Ġw 2:3). Din il-kelma ta’ Marija lil Ġesù tirreferi għal sitwazzjoni konkreta, waqt tieġ, waqt festa ta’ mħabba u ferħ. L-inbid, skont is-Salm 103, huwa dak li jferraħ qalb il-bniedem” (103:15). Il-ħsieb tagħna malajr imur lejn l-inbid bħala l-element li fil-ħajja tagħna jġib il-ferħ. Naqashom il-ferħ mhux biss għax l-għarus u l-għarusa kienu inkwetati li ma jistgħux jitrattaw il-mistednin bir-rispett li jistħoqqilhom — fosthom kien hemm Marija u Ġesù li stieden miegħu d-dixxipli wkoll — imma għaliex din li tgħid il-Madonna tista’ wkoll tirreferi għal tant sitwazzjonijiet fil-ħajja tagħna li donnhom ma baqgħalhomx sens jew huma kawża ta’ pietà… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 26th May

Readings of the day

First Reading: Sir 36, 1-2a.5-6.13-19
Psalm: 78 (79), 8.9.11 & 13

Gospel: Mk 10, 32-45

In those days, they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid.

He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death; then they will hand him over to the Gentiles; they will mock him, and spit upon him, and flog him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise again.”

James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” And he said to them, “What is it you want me to do for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.”

But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking… Read more »

The relevance of St Dominic in today’s society – The Archbishop

Mass to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the death of St Dominic

The Church of St Dominic and The Blessed Virgin

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Jien kont magħmul xandar u appostlu biex ngħallem lill-ġnus il-fidi u l-verità”. Dan il-kliem tal-Appostlu Missierna fl-ewwel ittra tiegħu lil Timotju, ifisser il-kariżma u l-vokazzjoni ta’ San Duminku. Kien magħmul xandar u appostlu. Il-merti u l-prestiġji tiegħu fis-saltna ta’ Alla ixebbhu ħafna mal-appostli. Wara kollox, il-kariżma tiegħu nibtet fix-xewqa tiegħu li jkun dixxiplu missjunarju, xi ħaġa li l-Papa Franġisku jirrepeti diversi drabi fl-Ittra li bagħat lill-Ordni Dumnikan illum bit-titlu sabiħ Praedicator Gratiae (Predikatur tal-Grazzja)… Read more »

Directives for the celebration of feasts 2021

Il-Knisja f’Malta qed tippubblika direttivi rigward iċ-ċelebrazzjoni tal-festi għal din is-sena, skont l-istqarrija maħruġa fl-14 ta’ Mejju 2021 fejn intqal li l‑festi parrokkjali u festi oħra reliġjużi li jsiru ġewwa l‑bini tal‑Knisja jsiru fil‑ġranet li s-soltu jiġu ċċelebrati, b’rispett sħiħ lejn il‑miżuri għall‑ħarsien tas‑saħħa indikati mill‑awtoritajiet tas‑saħħa.

Dawn id-direttivi jistipulaw li l-quddies u ċelebrazzjonijiet liturġiċi oħra relatati mal-festa jkunu konformi mad-direttivi maħruġa mill-awtoritajiet ekkleżjastiċi u/jew ċiviċi li jkunu fis-seħħ f’dak iż-żmien, li l-istatwa għandha tinħareġ u tiddaħħal lura fin-niċċa b’mod privat, u li l-armar jista’ jsir bħalma s-soltu jsir… Read more »
