On Friday March 18, 2011, the Diocesan Commission for Youth (KDZ) launched the Maltese version of the international World Youth Day (WYD) song, at Bianco’s lounge bar in St Julian’s. The release marks the 150th day from the WYD, where close to two million young people from across the world are expected to converge in Madrid, Spain, for a week-long celebration of faith and culture.

Among them will be over 600 youths from Malta and Gozo, making the islands one of the strongest participants in the event. The Maltese version of the theme song was translated from the original Spanish by Ms Gabriella Farrugia, awarded Best Student of the Spanish Language 2010. The song, composed and arranged in three different versions by Mro. Joe Brown, was sung by Thea Garrett, together with Angela Spiteri and Pamela Bezzina.

KDZ President, Mr Anthony Mifsud, told journalists during a press conference that the song captures the spirit of young people in Malta and shares their enthusiasm with youths from across the world. The song will be made available for free download on www.kdz.org.mt.
