News from the Church in Malta

The position of the Church on the European Pillar of Social Rights

24/11/2017 News
  • Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Agius, Dean of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta, was one of the main speakers at the seminar titled “The contribution of workers’ organisations to the European Pillar of Social Rights” organised by the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin (UĦM).

Prof. Emmanuel Agius spoke about the Church’s position on the European Pillar of Social Rights. The Pillar is designed as a compass for a renewed process of upward convergence towards better working and living conditions in Europe.

The Commission of Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) welcomed The Pillar and described it as an effective instrument for breathing new life into the founding idea of a Europe growing together.
