The Malta Diocesan Archives will be holding a public lecture entitled “The Holy See and its international relations during the pontificate of Pius XII” to commemorate the opening of the Diocesan Archive relative to the pontificate of Pope Pius XII (1939-1958) and the episcopate of Archbishop Michael Gonzi.

The guest speaker is Rev. Prof. Roberto Regoli, professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. The event will be held this Friday, 27th May 2022, at the Archbishop’s Curia in Floriana, at 6:30pm. After the lecture, the public is invited to attend the inauguration of the exhibition of archival documents entitled “Forging of a State – The Church-State relationship in Malta during the Pontificate of Pius XII”.

On Saturday 28th May, academics from eight different European universities, including two academics from Malta, will share their contributions in an online seminar on the Mediterranean Sea as a fundamental crossroads for the political-religious dynamics and international tensions that characterised the global context in the mid-twentieth century. The seminar, entitled “The world is a sea – Catholics and the Mediterranean during the pontificate of Pius XII”, is being organised in collaboration with the Department of Church History within the Faculty of Theology of the University of Malta.

Further information can be obtained by contacting the Malta Diocesan Archives on 25906213.
