• Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. has appointed Fr Anthony Cassar as director of ‘Dar tal-Kleru’ (the residence for elderly and sick priests) and parish priest of Mdina.

    Fr Anthony Cassar was born in Siġġiewi on the 5th August, 1946. He received his primary education in Luqa, and his secondary education at St Aloysius College, Birkirkara. He carried out his tertiary studies (Philosophy and Theology) in the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta.

    Fr Anthony was ordained to the priesthood on the 20th July, 1974. He commenced his pastoral work in Siġġiewi parish and in the Social Action Movement. He also worked at the Missionary Office and the Office for the Clergy, Parishes and Religious Life, at the Archbishop’s Curia. In 1983 he was appointed parish priest of Gharghur where he served for eight years, and in 1991 he was appointed parish priest of Christ the King parish, Paola. In 1988 he was appointed parish priest of Zabbar and in 2003, parish priest of St Helen’s, Birkirkara.

    The number of parishioners in Mdina is 230 gathered in around 100 families.
