The texts made available to Christians throughout the world for 2020 were prepared by the Churches in Malta and Gozo. This year, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (WPCU) in Malta will be celebrated through a range of initiatives organized jointly by the various Churches on the island.
Preparing for the WPCU, on Friday 10 January Fr Paul Sciberras held a public lecture at the Archdiocese on An Evangelising Heart for a Hearth: Making Space for Others in a Cold World, which focused on the biblical passage that had inspired the theme for the 2020 WPCU (Acts 27:18 and 28:10).
On Thursday 23 January, an exhibition will be inaugurated at the Archdiocese on Bibles and Liturgical Books from Christian Churches in Malta: An Ecumenical Confluence, organized by the Archdiocese of Malta, the Ecumenical Commission of the Maltese Bishops’ Conference,
Christians Together in Malta, and the Curatorial Studio.
The main ecumenical celebration will take place at the Anglican Pro-Cathedral of Saint Paul in Valletta on Friday 24 January at 6.30 pm, presided over by the Right Reverend Robert Innes (Anglican Bishop of Gibraltar in Europe). The homily will be delivered by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna.
Lastly, the various ecumenical partners and persons involved in the ecumenical dialogue in Malta will meet on Saturday 25 January, the concluding date of the WPCU, for a moment of sharing and exchange.
