Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, Bishop Anton Teuma and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi welcome the appointment by Pope Francis of Fr Angelo Falzon as Bishop of the Diocese of Comayagua, Honduras.
The Archdiocese of Malta and the Diocese of Gozo are united in prayer for Bishop Falzon so that the Lord will help him in this new mission.
Fr Angelo, born in Naxxar on 15th October 1957, entered the Franciscan Order on 2nd October 1977 in the Maltese Province of Friars Minor, dedicated to St Paul the Apostle.
On 10th October 1982 he made his Solemn Profession and on 29th June 1984 he was ordained priest. In 1985 he went as a missionary to Honduras, where he joined his Maltese Franciscan brothers in the Mission entrusted to the Immaculate Conception Province of New York.
Fr Angelo was initially a vice-parish priest in Santa Anna, La Libertad and then became parish priest of the Inmaculada Concepción parish of Aguanqueterique in La Paz.
Fr Angelo is now Bishop of the diocese of Comayagua, succeeding Mgr Roberto Camilleri OFM, who died on 17 October 2023.
