On Saturday 12th February, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. participated in a conference organized by the Link Youth Group (Qormi St George) and the Diocesan Youth Commission, entitled ‘FAMILY: DIVERSITY, EFFORT, SACRIFICE’.  this conference which was held at the CAK, BKara formed part of the activities organized for Marriage Week.

During the conference a number of themes related to the family were discussed: the way in which the Church views the family, how strong families contribute towards a stronger society and the effects suffered by children whose families are experiencing a period of crisis.

Archbishop Cremona attended different workshops in which the youths participated and insisted upon the importance of transmitting positive feedback concerning the family.  Mons Cremona stated that a pro-family culture cannot be taken for granted and he emphasized that marriage needs to be promoted more widely, both among youths as well as children.

Fr Brendan Gatt also addressed the conference. In his presentation, Fr Gatt compared the family to gold, stating that the Church’s vision on marriage is built upon the vision of the human person.  In her presentation, another speaker, Dr Rita Borg Xuereb, President of the Diocesan Commission for the Family, explained how it is not easy to live within the context of the family.  She quoted several statistics which show that where divorce was introduced, such as in Ireland, marriage rates were affected.  Dr Borg Xuereb also stressed upon the fact that proper communication between the spouses is fundamental.
