Following this morning’s Mass in the Vatican Basilica, at midday the Pope appeared at the window of his study overlooking St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with thousands of faithful gathered below. Recalling the fact that “today we celebrate the great Feast of the Epiphany, the mystery of the apparition of the Lord to all people, as represented by the Magi who came from the East to adore the King of the Jews”, the Pope said that “the star and Holy Scripture were the twin lights that guided the journey of the Magi, who appear to us as models of authentic seekers after truth”… Read more »

They discussed with him the causes of forced migration from a number of African countries to Europe and how this was affecting Malta. Benedict XVI’s first 2010 trip out of Italy will bring him to Malta, April 17-18. The visit will mark the 1,950th anniversary of St. Paul’s shipwreck there, which tradition holds to have taken place in A.D. 60. Paul was headed to Rome, but instead was welcomed by the local population and spent three months evangelizing the archipelago, which is still majority Catholic… Read more »

€617,585 were raised yesterday during the New Year’s Open Day organised  by Radio RTK for the Dar tal-Providenza in Siggiewi. This was the largest sum ever collected in fourteen annual editions. During the day, huge crowds filled the big tent in the parking lot of the Home. The Director, Fr Martin Micallef, thanked the hundred of volunteers who helped organise this Open Day, and most of all the Maltese people, including Maltese emigrants who generously gave their donations and who once again expressed their values of solidarity and generosity with the Dar tal-Providenza… Read more »

On New Year’s day, in the Archbishop’s Palace, Valletta, Archbishop Paul Cremona OP, Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Mercieca and Bishop Annetto Depasquale welcomed the representatives of civil authorities and constituted bodies to exchange greetings for the New Year, 2010.
