On Sunday 24th January, 2010, in preparation of Pope’s Benedict XVI’s visit to Malta, the Diocesan Commission for Youth started a pilgrimage through various localties with replicas of the World Youth Day Cross and Icon. On Saturday 23rd January, at the Archbishop’s Curia, Floriana, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. welcomed those involved in ecumenical activities in the Archdiocese of Malta. This meeting – the first of its kind – was organized by the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission on the occasion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

On the occasion of the third anniversary of his Episcopal Ordination, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. will be celebrating a Thanksgiving Mass at St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, on Sunday 24 January 2010, at 5.30pm.
The following day, the Archbishop will be celebrating his 64th birthday. Mgr Cremona was born on 25 January 1946.

On Friday, 22nd January 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona OP visited Saint Thomas More Primary School in Tarxien. Currently 232 students attend this school. The Archishop was welcomed in the school yard by the students who sang hymns and recited the morning prayer. As part of the occasion the students collected donations for Dar tal-Providenza. As Friday marks 37 years since the U.S. court decision that legalized abortion, another 40 Days for Life campaign is being launched, this time in 156 cities and three countries. David Bereit, national director of the organization, stated in a press release that “while many see a time of darkness this week” due to the Roe v. Wade anniversary, and as congress “deliberates legislation that could lead to dramatic increases in taxpayer funding for abortion, I see a time of great hope.” He explained that he sees hope in the fact that pro-life supporters throughout the nation, and in Canada and Australia, “are willing to step out in faith and host 40 Days for Life campaigns.”

An Ecumenical Prayer Service was held on the evening of Thursday 21st January 2010, in St Andrew’s Scots Church, Valletta. This was the main event held in Malta on the occasion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which comes to a close on Monday 25th January 2010.
