Benedict XVI appointed Archbishop Mauro Piacenza, 66, secretary of the Congregation for Clergy, as prefect of the same dicastery. A Vatican communiqué reported today that the Pope also appointed Archbishop Robert Sarah, 65, secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, as president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum.

Friday, October 8th, 2010 was Volunteer’s Night where young people who spent their summers in voluntary missions came together to share their experiences. Ambrogio Pisoni The Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples, which ordinarily takes place annually in Rimini, Italy, will be organized in a similar way in Egypt. The event, which is sponsored by the Catholic lay Communion and Liberation Movement, will have its two-day Egypt edition Oct. 28-29 and will focus on the theme: “Beauty: Space of Dialogue.”

Yesterday the Holy Father received participants in a congress on the Catholic press promoted by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. The congress has been taking place this week in Rome.
Addressing the participants, who come from eighty-five different countries, the Pope referred to two specific aspects of the role of the Catholic press. Orthodox Archbishop Hilarion Alfeyev of Volokolamsk is expressing the conviction that the 21st century will see a flowering of Christianity, without divisions between the followers of Jesus.
