“A RENEWING EXPERIENCE” – THE 2011 DIOCESAN ASSEMBLY

Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. presided over the Diocesan Assembly of the Church in Malta on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 September. This was held at the CAK Centre in Birkirkara.

POPE MEETS VICTIMS OF ABUSE DURING HIS STATAL VISIT IN GERMANY

Pope Benedict XVI has met German victims of sexual abuse by priests, expressing “deep compassion and regret” at their suffering.

The Pope met five victims for half an hour, on the second day of his four-day state visit to his native Germany.

A statement from the Vatican said he was “moved and deeply shaken”.

THE CHURCH OFFERS HELP TO THE VICTIMS OF ABUSE

At a meeting which took place between the Maltese Episcopal Conference and the Conference of the Religious Major Superiors, it was decided to publish this statement:

With reference to the facts and allegations which led to the decision given by the Magistrates’ Court some weeks back (which is still pending before the Courts, and hence cannot be prejudiced in any way), the Church authorities in Malta and Gozo, declare that they have been given legal advice, in the sense that, in this particular case, the Church, as an institution, does not have any legal responsibility for what was perpetrated by some individuals and that she cannot take upon herself such responsibility… Read more »

MISSION TO IRAN SEEKS TO IMPROVE RELATIONS THROUGH RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE

A delegation of Christian and Muslim leaders returned to the United States from Iran hoping that their six-day visit will improve relations between the two squabbling countries in a way that diplomatic channels have not.
