Pope calls for protection of child migrants

    • Pope Francis has sent a message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development”, urging protection for tens of thousands of unaccompanied children who are migrating North from Central America and Mexico in increasing numbers. 

      The Holy Father’s letter was read to conference participants by Apostolic Nuncio Christophe Pierre.  The conference was also attended by the Vatican’s secretary of state Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

Pope Francis appeals for peace in the Holy Land

    • Pope Francis on Sunday asked for prayers for peace in the Holy Land.

      Speaking after the Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope described his appeal as “heartfelt” and said we must all continue to pray insistently for peace in the Holy Land in the light of the tragic events of the past days.

      Il-Caritas Malta taqbel illi għandu jkun hemm riforma fil-liġijiet dwar id-drogi u tapprezza l-inizjattiva li ħa l-Gvern fil-White Paper li qed tiġi ppubblikata.

  • Il-Caritas Malta:

    • temmen illi l-għan tar-riforma għandu jkun illi d-droga tibqa’ titqies bħala ħaġa ħażina fiha nnfisha;
    • ma tnagħmilx distinzjoni bejn soft u hard drugs;
    • taqbel illi persuni li jinqabdu b’pussess ta’ droga għall-użu personali għall-ewwel darba għandu jkun hemm dipenilizzazzjoni tar-reat bil-għan illi persuna jsirilha assessment minn Aġenziji ta’ Riabilitazzjoni biex tingħatalhom kura u trattament skont il-ħtieġa;
    • issostni li t-traffikanti tad-droga għadhom jingħataw piena skont l-abbuż;
    • ittenni l-ħtieġa li jitwaqqaf il-Qorti tad-Droga biex il-proċessi kriminali ma jieħdux fit-tul u jsir assessment minn tim ta’ persuni professjonali dwar il-grad ta’ responsabbilta’ tal-persuna li għamlet ir-reat;
