Vatican demands complete ban on nuclear weapons

Pope sends video-message ahead of Fatima pilgrimage

  • Pope Francis has sent a message of greeting to the people of Portugal as he prepares to travel to Fatima on the 100th anniversary of the first apparition of Mary to three shepherd children on May 13th 1917.

Bishops among first signatories to pledge to end death penalty

  • Bishops attending a meeting were among the first to sign the National Catholic Pledge to End the Death Penalty at the U.S. bishops’ headquarters building May 9.

    Each person taking the pledge promises to educate, advocate and pray for an end to capital punishment.

  • Pope Francis during his Wednesday General Audience continued his catechesis on Christian hope, highlighting Mary the Mother of Hope.

    On the eve of his Apostolic visit to Fatima, Pope Francis on Wednesday, described Mary as the Mother of Hope adding that she was a woman of courage, perseverance and obedience.
