Pope recovering normally; Sunday ‘Angelus’ from hospital

Pope Francis “spent a quiet day”, Thursday, with “normal clinical progress”. “He continued to eat regularly and continued his scheduled treatment,” Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press Office, said in a brief statement on Friday. 

The Holy Father is recovering normally after a scheduled surgery for “diverticular stenosis of the colon” on Sunday at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. 

In his update on the Pope’s convalescence, Bruni said he “walked in the corridor and resumed his work, alternating it with moments of reading texts”.  Thursday afternoon, “he celebrated Holy Mass in the chapel of his private apartment” in the hospital, “attended by all those assisting him during his hospitalization”… Read more »

Pope recovering normally, shows closeness to hospitalised children

Pope Francis is recovering well after intestinal surgery he underwent on Sunday at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press office, said in his update on the Pope on Thursday.  It was a “quiet day for the Pope” and his chest-abdomen CT scan was negative

“His Holiness Pope Francis spent a quiet day, eating and moving around independently on his own,” Bruni said.  “In the afternoon he wanted to show his paternal closeness to the little patients of the nearby Pediatric Oncology and Child Neurosurgery ward, sending them his affectionate greeting.”

Well-wishers gather outside Rome’s Gemelli Hospital where Pope Francis is recovering from surgery

The Pope Emeritus, Church authorities, and world leaders across the globe have sent their assurances of prayers and good wishes to Pope Francis as he recovers from surgery in Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.

The Pope underwent programmed surgery on Sunday evening and, according to medical bulletins, he is doing well.

Maltese people more open to online worship since the outbreak of the pandemic – but they still missed going to Church, study finds

Faith in God helped Maltese people go through the pandemic experience

A study conducted by the University of Malta’s Faculty of Theology found that more Maltese people are open to online methods of worship since the pandemic broke in 2020, but they still believe that public worship together is important. They missed going to Church, especially receiving the Eucharist. The majority of participants stated that their faith helped them go through the pandemic experience.

The survey, which was spearheaded by members of the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law, set out to understand some of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the life, faith and meaning of the people living in Malta… Read more »

Pope Francis doing well after surgery

The surgical operation Pope Francis underwent on Sunday evening is over, announced the director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni.

“Admitted in the afternoon to the A. Gemelli Hospital, the Holy Father underwent surgery in the evening for a diverticular stenosis of the colon”.

TV marathon raises €513,000 for Dar tal-Providenza

€512,870 were raised during Sunday’s TV Marathon in aid of Dar tal-Providenza. Because of certain restrictions still being enforced by our Health Authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the whole programme was produced on the same lines as those of the new year’s day ‘Festa ta’ Ġenerożità’ marathon.
