• Bishops’ message in preparation for European Parliament Elections

  • Inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which sheds light upon human dignity, we, the Bishops, wish to impart a message prior to the European Parliament elections which will take place on the 24th May.

    We believe that real progress for mankind and for society can only be guaranteed if certain fundamental principles are respected.  We cannot compromise on these principles.  The following are the main points:

    1. the right to human life, which should be safeguarded from the point of conception until natural death;
    2. the strengthening of the natural family, based upon marriage between a man and a woman;
    3. the right for dignified employment and a decent wage;
    4. the exercise of the principles of solidarity and subsidiarity as the core of social relations;
    5. motivated by mercy, society should continue to treat migrants humanely and help them to integrate themselves in society;
    6. respect for the environment.
    It is the duty of every Christian to promote projects which are in line with the above principles.  This should be done with an informed conscience.  Thus, we remind the faithful that is it one’s duty to vote during these elections, as by so doing, one contributes towards the building of Europe for the good of mankind.
