A recital is being held at the Jesuits Church in Valletta on Thursday 7th November at 7:30pm as part of the Oratories’ cultural programme run by The Jesuits’ Church Foundation. The evening of French music by flautist Katie Bycroft and pianist Gisèle Grima features works by composers such as Ibert, Gaubert, and Godard.
On Thursday 14th November, at 7:30pm, Dr Bernard Micallef, together with students from the Maltese Department of the University of Malta, will explore the theatricality of the seminal Maltese novel by Juann Mamo, ‘Ulied in-Nanna Venut fl- Amerki’. Bradley Cachia and Kristina Catania will be reciting and animating excerpts from the novel in Maltese, as Dr Micallef demonstrates the performative approach of Mamo’s printed text.
With the feast of the patron saint of musicians, Saint Cecilia, the Oratories will once again use this opportunity to shed light on the important (and often under-recognised) contributions of women to music. This year the recital will be held on Friday 22nd November at 7:30pm, on the proper feast day of Saint Cecilia. This year’s concert is dedicated to the works of Maltese composer Véronique Vella, who will be performing some of her chamber works, together with Simon Abdilla Joslin (cello) and Alan Vella (electronics).
On Thursday 28th November at 6:30pm, Dr Theresa Vella from Curatorial Studios will deliver the second public lecture of the season, on the paintings held within the Jesuits’ Church complex itself. This offers a unique opportunity to learn more about this impressive collection in the very space where they are housed.
All the events are free of charge, but donations are welcome.
