With him we are well pleased – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  Parish Church, Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Dan hu Ibni l-għażiż li fih sibt il-għaxqa tiegħi. Isimgħu lilu” (Mt 17:5). Dan il-kliem instemgħa minn leħen ġo sħaba f’din il-ġrajja tat-Trasfigurazzjoni li għadna kif smajna rrakkuntata. Kien l-istess leħen tal-Missier li fil-Magħmudija ta’ Ġesù kien qal: “Dan hu Ibni l-għażiż: fih sibt il-għaxqa tiegħi” (Mt 3:17).

Huwa kliem fil-qalba ta’ din il-ġrajja tat-Trasfigurazzjoni li baqgħet fil-moħħ u fil-qalb tat-tliet iħbieb ta’ Ġesù li ħa miegħu – Pietru, Ġwanni u Ġakbu… Read more »

In those days: Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept.

He is our saviour – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Mulej, jekk huwa int, ordnali niġi ħdejk fuq l-ilma” (Mt 14:28). Dan huwa l-kliem li qal Pietru lil Ġesù, f’din il-ġrajja li għadna kif smajna meta Ġesù kien qed jimxi fuq il-baħar. Għall-bidu, id-dixxipli li kienu fid-dgħajsa jitħabtu mal-mewġ, bir-riħ kontra tagħhom, ħasbu li dan kien xi fantażma. Imma Ġesù qalilhom: “Agħmlu l-qalb, jiena hu, tibżgħu xejn” (Mt 14:27).

Kien kif qal hekk li Pietru ried li jmur ħdejh… Read more »

The Church increases its support to people in need despite financial challenges

The Financial Report of the Archdiocese of Malta for 2022

  The Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

The Archdiocese of Malta more than doubled its donations to individuals and increased subsidies to entities by 20% in 2022, despite recording a deficit of €8.8 million mainly due to losses on its investments attributable to a negative global economic landscape.

Speaking at a press conference to present the annual accounts of the Church in Malta, Administrative Secretary Michael Pace Ross explained that the impact of the war in Ukraine, rising interest rates, and inflationary pressures had adversely affected the income of the Archdiocese, which encompasses more than 100 entities and employs 1,300 staff members… Read more »

Pope Francis: ‘Next World Youth Day in Seoul, South Korea’

Before making the excitedly-awaited announcement that the next World Youth Day will take place in Seoul, South Korea, “moving from the western edge of Europe to the Far East,” Pope Francis expressed gratitude to all those who have made WYD2023 in Lisbon come true.

There is an expression, he said, that we have heard frequently during these days: “Thank you,” or rather, “Obrigado.”

Gratitude was the core value of the Pope’s Angelus message after the Holy Mass concluding World Youth Day in Lisbon… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 8th August

Readings of the day

First Reading: Numbers 12:1-13
Psalm: 50 (51):3-4,5-6a,6bc-7,12-13

Gospel: Matthew 14:22-36

After he had fed the people, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray.

When evening came, he was there alone, but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”

Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. After the people of that place recognised him, they sent word throughout the region and brought all who were sick to him, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: You are a sign of peace for the world

On the occasion of World Youth Day

  Parque Tejo, Lisbon

Dear brothers and sisters,

There is an expression that we have heard frequently during these days: “thank you”, or rather, “obrigado”. The Patriarch of Lisbon just told us something very important: that obrigado not only conveys a sense of gratitude for what we have received but also the desire to give in return. In this grace-filled event, we have all received much… Read more »
