Teaching is the source of all wealth – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Church of St Mary of Jesus (Ta' Ġieżu), Valletta

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Nazju Falzon kellu ħeġġa kbira biex iwassal l-Evanġelju u biex jgħallem il-fidi Kattolika. Hu qiegħed il-ħafna talenti tiegħu u l-preparazzjoni intellettwali tiegħu għas-servizz tal-katekeżi.” Dan hu l-kliem li qal il-Papa Ġwanni Pawlu II, illum qaddis, meta fis-sena 2001 kien Malta biex imexxi ċ-ċelebrazzjoni tal-beatifikazzjoni ta’ Nazju Falzon, flimkien ma’ ta’ Dun Ġorġ Preca u Adeodata Pisani.

Hu kliem li jurina kif dan il-beatu, li għex f’epoka differenti, għandu ħafna x’jgħidilna wkoll għall-ħajja tagħna llum… Read more »

Gospel: Matthew 9:14-17

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?”

Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

Any investigation into reports of abuse must be independent – Head of Safeguarding Commission

Il-Kap tas-Safeguarding Commission Andrew Azzopardi qal li kull investigazzjoni f’rapporti ta’ abbuż minn persuni reliġjużi trid tkun indipendenti minn kull tip ta’ indħil.

F’intervista ma’ Newsbook.com.mt, Azzopardi tkellem dwar konferenza li saret f’Ruma għal persuni li jaħdmu fil-qasam tal-ħarsien tat-tfal u tal-adulti vulnerabbli fil-Knisja. Għal din il-konferenza attendew 80 persuna li sitta minnhom kienu qed jirrappreżentaw lill-Arċidjoċesi ta’ Malta u lill-Kunsill tas-Superjuri Maġġuri Reliġjużi, jiġifieri l-ordnijiet reliġjużi f’Malta… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 1st July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Amos 8:4-6,9-12
Psalm: 18 (119):2,10,20,30,40,131

Gospel: Matthew 9:9-13

In those days, Jesus saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples.

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”

We need tenderness in a world marked by violence, aggression, and arrogance – The Archbishop

Message at the inauguration of the restored miraculous icon of Our Lady of Damascus

The Church of Our Lady of Damascus, Birgu

Homily by Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna

Your Excellency, President of the Republic, Mrs Vella, Honourable Minister, Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, a special greeting to Papas Martin Zammit and Papas Emeritus George Mifsud.

Thank you so much, George, for all that you have done and for your excellent introduction to the theology of the icon.

I remember being in Damascus in 2008, before the troubles, when the local clergy told me: “You have one of our icons.” I replied, “Well, I don’t know whether it is yours, but we are taking good care of it.”

So, in Damascus, they know that in Malta we have not only a great devotion to this icon but also take great care of this very ancient and beautiful treasure… Read more »

‘Overcome polemics about the liturgy to rediscover its beauty’ – Pope Francis

With an Apostolic Letter to the people of God entitled “Desiderio desideravi”, Pope Francis calls for Catholics to overcome forms of aestheticism that appreciate only outward formality or allow sloppiness in liturgy, noting that “a celebration that does not evangelize is not authentic.”

The Pope has written an Apostolic Letter to the people of God on the liturgy, to recall the profound meaning of Eucharistic celebrations as it emerged from the Council and to encourage liturgical formation… Read more »

The joy of the Church is to evangelise

Message by Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi

“This is the joy of the Church: to evangelise”. This was a constant refrain in the words of Pope Francis in Malta, particularly in his homily in Gozo, in front of the Ta’ Pinu Shrine. Some may have missed the play on the word “joy”, which in Spanish, the Pope’s native language, is “gozo”.

Pope Francis emphasised that we are called to return to the origins, in order to renew our faith and common mission… Read more »

Talba għat-Tqarbina tax-Xewqa

Ġesù, jiena nemmen li Inti tinsab tabilħaqq fis-Sagrament tal-Ewkaristija.
Irrid inħobbok fuq kollox u fuq kulħadd.
Inti taf li nixtieq nirċevik ġewwa fija.
Imma ġaladarba bħalissa ma nistax nilqgħek ġewwa fija sagramentalment,
nitolbok li tiġi fija spiritwalment.
Ejja għandi Ġesù tiegħi, biex jiena niġi għandek… Read more »
