Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 John 1:1-4
Psalm: 96:1-2,5-6,11-12

Gospel: John 20: 2-8

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.

So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in.

Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb… Read more »

The bonds that bind – The Archbishop

Article by Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna

O sweet tender embrace of motherly care
O kiss of a son doting, so full of love!
Teach us to cherish each life; help us to share
Blessings of joy; show us the Way from above.

I was inspired to write this short poem in recent days by the beautiful, 900-year-old icon of Our Lady Mary of Damascus that takes pride of place at the Greek Catholic Church, in Valletta, which is entrusted to the Greek Catholic community in Malta.

The manner in which Jesus as a child embraces his mother is striking, for it seems to go beyond a tender hug… Read more »

Activities on Christmas Day

Illum, f’Jum il-Milied, id-Djakonija Parroċċi wasslet ikliet, ħelu u ġugarelli lil nies li jgħinu fil-parroċċi Maltin. Dan sar grazzi għal 85 voluntier permezz ta’ 50 karozza. L-Isqof Awżiljarju Joseph Galea-Curmi żar u tkellem mal-voluntiera waqt il-ħidma tagħhom miċ-Ċentru Parrokkjali tal-Iklin.

“Minkejja li r-restrizzjonijiet tal-pandemija naqsu sew, għad għandna nies li għal xi raġuni jew oħra jkunu marbutin f’darhom u ma jistgħux joħorġu jiċċelebraw mal-qraba u l-ħbieb,” spjega Albert Debono, il-Kap tat-Taqsima tad-Djakonija… Read more »

The son of Mary of Nazareth was born today so we can rest – Archbishop

  Saint Paul's Cathedral, Mdina

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Kollox bih sar u xejn ma sar mingħajru; kulma sar kellu l-ħajja fih” (Ġw 1:3). “Il-ħajja kienet id-dawl tal-bnedmin, dawl jiddi fid-dlam” (Ġw 1:4). Dan il-kliem li jibda u jintroduċi l-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann u li l-Knisja taqra f’dawn l-aħħar 2000 sena meta tfakkar it-twelid ta’ Ġesu fil-quddiesa ta’ jum il-Milied, jiġbru il-valuri prinċipali li aħna qegħdin niċċelebraw.

Ilna nistennewha dil-ġurnata u ta’ min nieqfu u nistaqsu lilna nfusna: imma għaliex din iċ-ċelebrazzjoni kollha? … Read more »

I hope that during this Christmas we find the time to get closer to God – Archbishop

Eċċellenza, President tar-Repubblika, Sinjura Vella; Onorevoli Prim Ministru u Sinjura Abela; għażiża Georgia Mae; Dr Bernard Grech u Sinjura Grech. Ma nixtieqx ninsa lill-Ispeaker Dr Anglu Farrugia. Ningħaqad magħhom ilkoll biex inwassal tislijiet ta’ Milied hieni u Sena Ġdida mimlija risq lill-poplu Malti u Għawdxi, lill-poplu għażiż tagħna. Nixtieq nirringrazzja wkoll lil min poġġiena f’dan l-ambjent straordinarju sabiħ ta’ dwal, ta’ festa, ta’ ferħ. U l-poplu li nġabar hawnhekk f’dan it-temp sabiħ, li ppermetta li aħna ngawdu dan iż-żmien ta’ preparazzjoni għall-Milied.

Qed nieħu pjaċir ukoll, li qrib tagħna għandna x-xbihat għeżież tal-Madonna bil-Bambin, u ta’ San Ġużepp… Read more »

May every child remain good news and a blessing in our culture – The Archbishop

Midnight Mass

  St Paul's Cathedral, Mdina

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Il-poplu li kien miexi fid-dlam ra dawl kbir” (Iż 9:1). Hekk jgħid il-profeta Iżaija fil-profezija li qrajna llum f’dan il-lejl qaddis: “Il-poplu li kieni miexi fid-dlam ra dawl kbir”.

Din hi l-kelma wkoll li biha aħna l-Maltin kull 10 ta’ Frar nibdew il-liturġija solenni f’ġieħ in-nawfraġju tal-Appostlu Misierna San Pawl. Għax aħna konna poplu miexi fid-dlam u rajna dawl kbir meta Pawlu, l-appostlu missierna laqqagħna ma’ Ġesu ta’ Nazaret… Read more »
