There was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem at the Sheep Gate a pool called in Hebrew Bethesda, with five porticoes. In these lay a large number of ill, blind, lame, and crippled.

He believed in Jesus – Bishop Galea-Curmi

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Emmen il-kelma li qallu Ġesù”. Dan hu li naqraw fuq dan l-uffiċjal tas-sultan fl-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann illum. L-uffiċjal li ġie l-Galilija jfittex lil Ġesù biex jitolbu jfejjaqlu lil ibnu għax kien marid u wasal fl-aħħar. Għamillu talba ħerqana lil Ġesù: “Inżel, Mulej, qabel ma jmutli t-tifel”. Hi talba tassew ħierġa minn qalb maqsuma, li tqiegħed quddiem Ġesù x-xewqa li hu jmur ma’ dan ir-raġel id-dar ħalli jfejjaqlu t-tifel… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: We are the ones who get tired of asking for forgiveness, but he always forgives

  The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday, buongiorno!

The Gospel for this Sunday’s Liturgy recounts the so-called Parable of the Prodigal Son (cf. Lk 15:11-32). It leads us to God’s heart who always forgives compassionately and tenderly. Always, God always forgives. We are the ones who get tired of asking for forgiveness, but he always forgives. It [the parable] tells us that God is a Father who not only welcomes us back, but rejoices and throws a feast for his son who has returned home after having squandered all his possessions… Read more »

St Elias College students and their families support Soup Kitchen

  Soup Kitchen, Valletta

For Lent, students from St Elias College, Santa Venera, and their families donated food items so that a meal could be provided for the Soup Kitchen OFM in Valletta.

Using these items, the students and their teacher then prepared the meal for around 100 people, which was then served by some of the students themselves.

The activity was organised by the school chaplaincy and the home economics teacher… Read more »

A compassionate and forgiving heart – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the fourth Sunday of Lent

The Chapel of Our Lady of Miracles, Ħal Lija

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Din l-istorja li smajna fl-Evanġelu llum, tant magħrufa u tant sabiħa, bqajna nafuha bħala l-parabbola “tal-Iben il-Ħali”. Forsi jkun aħjar kieku nsejħulha, kif il-Papa Franġisku jispjega b’mod sabiħ ħafna, il-parabbola “tal-Missier il-Ħanin”, għax Ġesù qal din il-parabbola proprju biex juri li Alla hu Missier ħanin. Kienet b’reazzjoni għal dak li qalu l-Fariżej u l-Kittieba, li kienu raw il-pubblikani u l-midinbin sejrin għandu, u gergru u qalu: “Nies midinba jilqa’ għandu dan! … Read more »

Psalm: 29 (30):2,4,5-6,11-12a,13b

Gospel: John 4:43-54

At that time Jesus left Samaria for Galilee. For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honour in his native place. When he came into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, since they had seen all he had done in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves had gone to the feast… Read more »

Mass on the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Għal dan il-kliem tħawdet”. Nixtieq li nieqfu ftit illum fuq dawn il-kelmiet mill-Evanġelju skont San Luqa fejn qed jiddeskrivi l-ewwel reazzjoni ta’ Marija għall-kliem tal-anġlu Gabrijel. Għalfejn tħawdet? Aħna kultant ngħidu li tħawdet għax qatt ma kienet qed tistenna din l-aħbar – li se ssir Omm Alla. Imma fil-fatt meta l-Evanġelju jgħid “għal dan il-kliem tħawdet”, kien għadu lanqas qalilha l-anġlu bl-aħbar li se tkun Omm Alla… Read more »

The Sunday Gospel: 27th March

Fourth Sunday of Lent Readings of the day

First Reading: Joshua 5:9a.10-12
Psalm: 33 (34):2-3,4-5,6-7
Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Gospel: Luke 15:1-3,11-32

Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus, but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

So to them he addressed this parable. Then he said, “A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’ So the father divided the property between them. After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings and set off to a distant country where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation. When he had freely spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he found himself in dire need. So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens who sent him to his farm to tend the swine. And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed, but nobody gave him any… Read more »
