Pope at Angelus: Safeguarding the goods entrusted to us by the Lord

  St Peter's Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

In the Gospel of today’s Liturgy, Jesus speaks to the disciples to reassure them of any fear and to invite them to be vigilant. He addresses two fundamental exhortations to them: the first is, “Do not be afraid, little flock” (Lk 12:32); the second is, “Be ready” [literal translation of v. 35 used in the Italian original]… Read more »

A truly inclusive Church – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Le, merħla ċkejkna, tibżgħu xejn, għax Missieri għoġbu jagħtikom is-Saltna” (Lq 12:32). Dan il-kliem li Ġesù qal lid-dixxipli tiegħu, u li jgħidu lilna wkoll illum bħala dixxipli tiegħu, hu kliem li jagħti kuraġġ u kliem ta’ qawwa għalina fil-ħajja tagħna. Ftit qabel, Ġesù kien qed jgħid lid-dixxipli tiegħu li huma ma għandhomx jittieħdu, jinkwetaw fuq ħafna affarijiet li huma sekondarji, imma għandhom jaħsbu fis-Saltna ta’ Alla… Read more »

Refraining oneself and carrying one’s cross – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

“…jiċħad lilu nnifsu, jerfa’ salibu, u jimxi warajja” (Mt 16:24). Dawn huma t-tliet punti li jsemmi Ġesù fl-Evanġelju għal dawk li huma dixxipli tiegħu, jiġifieri għalina lkoll. Għall-ewwel, meta tisma’ dan il-kliem, qisu Ġesù jrid jagħmilha diffiċli – kliem iebes dan! Imma nafu mill-esperjenza tal-ħajja stess, kemm dan li qed jgħid Ġesù hu ta’ ġid għalina stess u għall-oħrajn.

L-ewwel nett Ġesù jgħid “jiċħad lilu nnifsu”… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 6th August

Transfiguration of the Lord – Feast
Readings of the day

First Reading: Daniel 7:9-10,13-14
Psalm: 96:1-2,5-6,9

Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9

Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”  Read more »
