Direction, Protection, Attention – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Ix-xbieha ta’ Kristu Ragħaj kienet xbieha għażiża ħafna għall-ewwel Insara. Kellha l-għeruq tagħha ħafna snin qabel meta, kif naraw fit-Testment il-Qadim, il-Mulej hu mfisser bħala ragħaj li jieħu ħsieb il-poplu tiegħu. Għedna llum fis-Salm 23, li tant nafuh: “Il-Mulej hu r-ragħaj tiegħi, xejn ma jonqosni”. U l-ewwel Insara kienu jiftakru speċjalment f’dan meta jaraw din ix-xbieha ta’ Kristu ragħaj li qed jieħu ħsieb il-merħla tiegħu… Read more »

Jesus’ family includes all those who do the will of the Father – The Archbishop

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ejjew nimmaġinaw ftit lill-Madonna, lil Marija ta’ Nazaret tisma’ dan il-kliem ta’ Ġesù. Jekk ma semagħtux direttament għax baqgħet barra d-dar fejn kien Ġesù, żgur wassluhulha. Ikun hemm min iwassalulha b’iżjed aċċent.

“Min hi ommi? Min huma ħuti?” (Mt 12:48). Hu kliem li mad-daqqa t’għajn jinstema’ iebes fil-konfront ta’ Marija ta’ Nazaret, il-mamà tiegħu u anke tal-qraba tiegħu li l-Evanġelju jirreferi għalihom dejjem bħala l-aħwa ta’ Ġesù, ħutu… Read more »

Mass on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bidnija Church

The Church of the Holy Family, Bidnija

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Mitt sena ilu, intom in-nies tal-Bidnija, missirijietkom, inawguraw din il-knisja li kienu bnew b’idejhom stess. Ħallsuha minn buthom, u għal żmien kienet magħrufa ‘l-Knisja tal-Mitt Lira’. Imma din il-knisja ħelwa tiġbor fiha, dedikata lill-Familja Mqaddsa, il-fidi tagħkom, u t-talba li tagħmlu llum lill-Mulej. Tiġbor il-fidi tagħkom għaliex komunità, li tagħti ħajjitha biex tibni knisja; mhux qed tibni dar, fejn dak li jkun joqgħod u jgħammar mal-familja tiegħu… Read more »

First Reading: Exodus 14, 21 – 15,1
Psalm: Exodus 15, 8-9.10 & 12.17

Gospel: Mt 12, 46-50

In those days, while Jesus was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers were standing outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” But to the one who had told him this, Jesus replied, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”

And pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Nothing would convince them – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Nisel ħażin u infidil”. Dan hu l-kliem iebes li jgħid Ġesù lill-kittieba u lill-Fariżej, li riedu mingħandu sinjal. Qalulu: “Mgħallem, xtaqna kieku naraw sinjal mingħandek”. Imma Ġesù kellu din ir-reazzjoni qawwija u iebsa li jsejħilhom “nisel ħażin u infidil”, u jgħidilhom li se jkollhom kundanna kbira.

Għaliex din ir-reazzjoni ta’ Ġesù? Hawnhekk Ġesù qed isejħilhom hekk, u fil-fatt aktar qabel kien ukoll sejħilhom bi kliem ieħor, bħal “nisel il-lifgħat”… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 19th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Exodus 14, 5-18
Psalm: 15, 1-2.3-4.5-6

Gospel: Mt 12, 38-42

In those days, some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so for three days and three nights the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth.

The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgement with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and see, something greater than Jonah is here! The queen of the South will rise up at the judgement with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and see, something greater than Solomon is here!  Read more »
