Dar tal-Providenza Diary 2022

Every year, Dar tal-Providenza prints a diary to be distributed to all households in Malta and Gozo. To have this done, it is not only needed to print the diary but also to have it inserted in an envelope before distribution. At the moment, an appreciable number of volunteers are helping in the insertion process, amongst them volunteers from the parishes of Attard, St. Joseph the Worker in Birkirkara, and Mellieħa… Read more »

Prayer for Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things.
I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 31st August

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Thess 5, 1-6.9-11
Psalm: 26 (27), 1.4.13-14

Gospel: Lk 4, 31-37

In those days, Jesus went down to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbath. They were astounded at his teaching, because he spoke with authority.

In the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, “Let us alone! … Read more »

So as not to fail – Bishop Galea-Curmi

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Nixtieqkom tinnutaw ftit x’ġara f’din il-ġrajja mill-Evanġelju skont San Luqa, meta Ġesù jmur lura Nażaret fejn kien trabba, u jidħol fis-sinagoga. Meta jidħol hemmhekk, u jieħu dik is-silta mill-Profeta Iżaija li tħabbar il-missjoni tiegħu, l-Evanġelju jgħid li “lkoll laqgħu kliemu u stagħġbu għall-kliem mimli ħlewwa li kien ħiereġ minn fommu”. Reazzjoni sabiħa, pożittiva. Jilqgħu l-kelma.

Imma mbagħad, ftit wara, meta Ġesù jispjega aktar fid-dettall, tinbidel għal kollox ir-reazzjoni tagħhom… Read more »

Mass on the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Church of St Joseph the Worker, Xemxija

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

F’dan iż-żmien ta’ pandemija li għexna u għadna qed ngħixu, kemm-il darba fakkarna lil xulxin kemm hemm bżonn insegwu l-miżuri għall-ħarsien tas-saħħa, fosthom il-ħasil tal-idejn, l-użu tas-sanitiser, eċċ. Imma wkoll daż-żmien fakkarna li hemm xi miżuri li tajjeb li nsegwuhom, anke meta ma jkunx hawn pandemija. Waħda minnhom hi l-ħasil tal-idejn, u l-ħasil tal-idejn qabel l-ikel. Hekk aħna mdorrijin nagħmlu, u hekk għandna nagħmlu u hi ħaġa tajba, u hekk jgħallmu l-ġenituri lit-tfal tagħhom mindu żgħar… Read more »

Mass on the feast of St Julian

The Parish Church of St Julian's, St Julian's

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

San Ġiljan hu qaddis li ħalla impressjoni kbira tul is-snin. Jingħad li f’Malta d-devozzjoni lejh bdiet fis-seklu 15. Għalkemm ma nafux ħafna dettalji storiċi fuq ħajtu, ħajtu hi espressa f’diversi poeżiji, pitturi u rappreżentazzjonijiet artistiċi oħra, speċjalment fil-Medju Evu. Fi Franza, fil-Katidral ta’ Rouen, u fil-Katidral ta’ Chartres, hemm ħġieġ bl-istained-glass sbieħ ħafna bl-istorja ta’ ħajtu.

X’ninnutaw f’dan kollu? … Read more »

Pope at Angelus: look at life starting from the heart

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Buongiorno!

The Gospel for today’s liturgy shows a few scribes and Pharisees amazed by Jesus’ attitude. They are scandalized because his disciples pick up food without first performing the traditional ritual ablutions. They think among themselves “This way of doing things is contrary to the religious practice” (cf. Mk 7:2-5).

We too can ask ourselves: why do Jesus and his disciples disregard these traditions? … Read more »

Pope Francis calls for prayer, fasting for Afghanistan

“I am following the situation in Afghanistan with great concern,” Pope Francis said on Sunday, adding, “I share in the suffering of those who mourn for the people who lost their lives in the suicide attacks last Thursday, and of those who are seeking help and protection.”

Almost two hundred people were killed in the suicide bombing at Kabul’s airport last week, and thousands of people are still waiting desperately to flee to the country as the Taliban takes control of the war-torn nation… Read more »
