‘THE BIBLE AND ITS MESSAGE’ NEW COURSES

The Malta Bible Society is organising 6 new Bible Courses between May  and June 2010.  The aim of these courses is to help in the better understanding of the Bible and its message.

The themes of the courses vary to suit everyone’s needs.  The lecturers are experts in their subjects.

FACEBOOK PENALIZED FOR OFFENSIVE PHOTO OF FRENCH BISHOP

The social networking Web site Facebook was recently penalized for allowing the posting of an offensive photo of a French bishop who is not even a member.

“Since last February 23, Bishop Hervé Giraud, bishop of Soissons, Laon and Saint-Quentin, has been seeing his photograph on Facebook together with indecent words,” reported the French episcopal conference on its Web site.

The conference’s article, publicized Thursday, noted, “He is not a member of this social network.” It added that the bishop reported this “illicit content,” but the photo was not removed.  … Read more »

THOUSANDS FLOCK TO FLORIANA GRANARIES FOR POPE’S SUNDAY CEREMONY

On Sunday, 18th April, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI celebrated Mass at the Floriana Granaries. Despite the threatening clouds,early in the day, thousands flocked to follow the ceremony. POPE RECEIVES CHRIST THE KING STATUE

The Bishops of the Maltese islands will be giving Pope Benedict XVI a miniature sculpture of Christ the King monument, sculptured by internationally renowned artist Antonio Sciortino. The original sculpture was inaugurated on the occasion of the Eucharistic Congress held in Malta in 1913.

The silver statue being presented by the Maltese Bishops on behalf of the Maltese people has been moulded in clay by a young Maltese artist, Christopher Ebejer and hand chiselled in 925/00 silver by Laga ltd… Read more »

POPE BENEDICT XVI ARRIVES IN MALTA AND RECEIVES A ROUSING WELCOME

On Saturday 17th April, 2010, at 5.00pm, Pope Benedict XVI arrived at the Malta International Airport. Maltese President, Dr. George Abela, opened the ceremony with a welcoming speech and was, afterwards, followed by the Pope who also addressed those present.

ST. JOHN VIANNEY’S RELICS TO TOUR IRELAND

St John Vianney relics

The bishops of Ireland are bringing the relics of St. John Vianney to Ireland before the Year for Priests draws to a close.

St. John Vianney is the patron of parish priests and the model proposed by Benedict XVI when he declared this special year to celebrate the priesthood. The Pope will conclude the year June 9-11.
