The Apostolic Nuncio to Malta, H.G. Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai SDB, paid his first official visit to Id-Dar tal-Providenza where he was welcomed by Fr Martin Micallef, Director, and Mrs Nadine Camilleri Cassano, Administrator of the Home.

He had the opportunity to meet with a number of residents and support workers. The Apostolic Nuncio said it was a great joy for him to visit Id-Dar tal-Providenza and meet with the people who live there. He had words of praise for the work it does with persons with disability but above all for the closeness of God felt in this place.

In his welcome address, Fr Martin spoke about the early days of the care home and how it has grown since 1965, particularly focusing on 1968, the year when the first three residents were welcomed in Siġġiewi. He referenced the 50th anniversary celebrations that included a meeting with Pope Francis at the Santa Martha residence at the Vatican. He gladly shook hands with the whole group that included residents, support workers, Archbishop Charles Scicluna and Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona as well as other employees and volunteers. Fr Martin asked the Nuncio to convey to His Holiness the love, affection and prayers from all at Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

During his visit, the Nuncio was taken around the chapel, Dun Mikiel’s museum and grave, the therapeutic pool, the St. Isidore Agriculture Centre, the multi sensory rooms, the kitchen and laundry. He also found time to talk with some of the employees about the work they do.
