• The Conference of Religious Major Superiors (Malta) (KSMR), representing all twenty-nine Religious Orders in Malta and Gozo, expressly supports the Jesuits in their appeal against the construction of a shooting range complex next door to Mount St Joseph Retreat House in Mosta.

The KSMR supports Jesuits’ appeal primarily because it believes this is a just cause. Mount St Joseph retreat house was built fifty years ago, offering its service to innumerable persons who have visited this place to spend time in silence, prayer and discernment over the years, and it should be left to keep its identity as a retreat house.

  • Moreover, this house demonstrates the presence and service of the Jesuits in Malta. It was built with enormous sacrifice not only on the part of the Jesuits but also on the part of so many other people, so that Malta would be able to offer a retreat house such as this one, one among the rare and few even though the need for such places is always growing.

The KSMR statement is unanimously endorsed by all its members, namely The De La Salle Brothers represented by Br Martin Borg; the Missionary Society of St Paul represented by Fr Frankie Cini; the Franciscan Friars Minor represented by Fr Richard Stanley Grech; the Franciscan Friars Minor Capuchins represented by Fr Martin Micallef; the Franciscan Friars Minor Conventuals represented by Fr Alfred Calleja; the Carmelites represented by Fr Alexander Vella; the Discalced Carmelites represented by Fr Emanuel Schembri; the Domenicans represented by Fr Frans Micallef; the Augustinians represented by Fr Ray Francalanza; the Salesians represented by Fr Paul Formosa; the Jesuits represented by Fr Patrick Magro; the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary represented by Sr Mary Grace Mercieca; Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus represented by Superior General Sr Pauline Farrugia and maltese Provincial Superiors, Daughters of the Sacred Heart represtend by Sr Rita Vella;  the Franciscan Sisters of the Heart of Jesus represented by Sr Josephine Xuereb; Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Gozo) represented by Sr Elsa Gretter; Daughters of Mary Help of Christians represented by Sr Theresa Curmi; Franciscan Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary represented by Sr Josephine Azzopardi; Missionary sisters of Jesus the Nazarene represented by Sr Consuelo Debono; Missionary Carmelites of St Therese of the Child Jesus represented by Sr Therese Curmi; the Domenican Sisters represented by Sr Carmelita Borg; the Augustinian Sisters represented by Sr Atanasia Buhagiar; the Little Sisters of the Poor represented by Sr Marie An Sean Sook; the Good Shepherd Sisters represented by Sr Doris Saliba; Sisters of the Sacred Heart represented by Sr Carmen Valentino; Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition represented by Sr Cecilia Schembri; Sisters of Charity represented by Sr Maria Salvina Bezzina; Sisters of St Dorothy represented by acting provincial Sr Frances Galea; and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians represented by Sr Roberta Spiteri.
