Libya Protests

“Populations necessarily react, before or after, to a view of man that is against his fundamental rights, against his dignity”: this was stated this morning by the archbishop of Genoa and president of the Italian Bishops Conference (CEI), card. Angelo Bagnasco.

“In addition to Libya – the cardinal stated –, there is all of North Africa, and I think this is a general fact that also occurred in the East”. “At some point – he explained –, in addition to economic and political problems, populations necessarily react, before or after, to an anthropology, and therefore to a view of man, that is against his fundamental rights, against his dignity”.

Because of this, card. Bagnasco concluded, “in addition to the economic factors, there certainly is this basic fact that cannot be oppressed by any regime or by any dictatorship” and “does explode, sooner or later”.
