The Archdiocese of Malta is currently holding an exhibition to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of Francesco Zahra, one of Malta’s foremost Baroque artists. The exhibition, displayed on the ground floor of the Archbishop’s Curia in Floriana, focuses on episodes from the Passion of Christ and other devotional subjects that this foremost Maltese artist painted for the Archbishop’s Curia, also known as Casa Manresa, which was founded in 1743 as a place of retreat by the Jesuits.

The exhibition is open to the public until 2nd December. Visitors are welcome from Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 4:30pm, and on Saturdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Admission is free.

Visitors to the exhibition are also invited to explore a collection of documents about the life and artistic journey of Francesco Zahra. These documents, which can be found at the Diocesan Archive in Floriana, span from 1717 to 1774, and offer a perspective on the artist’s evolution.

In conjunction with this exhibition, on Tuesday, 14th November at 7:00pm, Rev. Dr Nicholas Doublet will introduce the ongoing restoration project on Zahra’s paintings. Presentations will also be given by painting conservators Amy Sciberras and Valentina Lupo. The event will be held at the Refectory of the Archbishop’s Curia in Floriana. The discussion is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
