The Archdiocese of Malta more than doubled its donations to individuals and increased subsidies to entities by 20% in 2022, despite recording a deficit of €8.8 million mainly due to losses on its investments attributable to a negative global economic landscape.

The restoration and conservation of the façade of the Parish Church of St Cajetan in Ħamrun have been completed. The restoration work, amounting to €200,000 with 80% co-financing from European Union funds, was inaugurated by Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi and Parliamentary Secretary Chris Bonett. The Archive Conservation Laboratory of the Archdiocese of Malta presented the Cathedral Museum in Mdina with a meticulously restored letter attributed to St Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits. Dating back to the years 1548-1549, the letter is tied to the establishment of the Jesuits’ college and university in Messina.

Bishop Emeritus Mgr Paul Darmanin O.F.M. Cap. passed away last night at the age of 82.

In 1984, Mgr Darmanin was ordained the first bishop of the Diocese of Garissa in Kenya. He led this diocese up to 2015, after which he retired in Malta where he lived in the Convent of the Capuchin Friars in Floriana. Read more »

Archbishop Charles Scicluna is in Perù to undertake a mission entrusted to him by Pope Francis. 

During his visit, the Archbishop, who also serves as Adjunct Secretary for the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, will conduct a number of private meetings. He is not in a position to comment or answer questions related to this mission.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, the Foundation for Theological Studies of the Archdiocese of Malta will be offering 10 bursaries to individuals who wish to pursue further studies in theology and pastoral fields within the Faculty of Theology.

The bursaries will be distributed according to these criteria:

• €400 for those who apply for the Certificate in Safeguarding of Children and Young People
• €800 for those who apply for the Diploma in the Archival and Cultural appreciation of Ecclesiastical Patrimony or for the Diploma in Religious Studies
• €2,000 for those who apply for a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Theology (part-time) or in Scripture Studies
• €2,000 for those who apply for a Master of Arts in one of these fields: Spiritual Companionship, Bioethics, Business Bioethics, Environmental Ethics, Spirituality or Catholic School Leadership…
