At a meeting which took place between the Maltese Episcopal Conference and the Conference of the Religious Major Superiors, it was decided to publish this statement:

With reference to the facts and allegations which led to the decision given by the Magistrates’ Court some weeks back (which is still pending before the Courts, and hence cannot be prejudiced in any way), the Church authorities in Malta and Gozo, declare that they have been given legal advice, in the sense that, in this particular case, the Church, as an institution, does not have any legal responsibility for what was perpetrated by some individuals and that she cannot take upon herself such responsibility… Read more »

MISSION TO IRAN SEEKS TO IMPROVE RELATIONS THROUGH RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE

A delegation of Christian and Muslim leaders returned to the United States from Iran hoping that their six-day visit will improve relations between the two squabbling countries in a way that diplomatic channels have not. The four-member delegation, which included Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, retired archbishop of Washington, also hoped to be accompanied on the return home Sept. 19 by a pair of American hikers still being incarcerated by Iranian authorities on charges of espionage and entering Iran illegally, but was sidetracked because a judge who could approve their release was on vacation… Read more »

AFRICANS SAY CHURCH MUST STRENGHTEN ROLE IN ELECTION MONITORING

The Church must strengthen its role in observing and monitoring elections in African countries where electoral violence prevails, said church representatives from 20 African nations. POPE CALLS FAMILIES TO NEW EVANGELIZATION

Families who are living for Christ are among the protagonists in the Church’s mission to bring about a new evangelization, says Benedict XVI.

The Pope affirmed this today before praying the midday Angelus with crowds gathered at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo.

Reflecting on the passage from Philippians in today’s liturgy, the Holy Father noted how the letter was written around the year 50 A.D., and therein was already a complete synthesis of the mystery of Christ: “incarnation, ‘kenosis,’ that is, humiliation unto death on the cross, and glorification.”

“This mystery itself became one with the life of the Apostle Paul, who wrote this letter while he was in prison, awaiting a sentence of life or death,” the Holy Father explained… Read more »

NEW PARISH PRIEST FOR MSIDA AND DINGLI PARISHES

Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. has appointed Fr Norman Zammit as the new parish priest of Imsida and Fr Ewkarist Zammit as the new parish priest of Dingli.

Fr Zammit was born on 3rd August 1973. He received his education at Zurrieq Primary School, at St Michael’s Secondary School and Mount Carmel College, both in Santa Venera. He continued his tertiary education within the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta… Read more »
