Pope's imminent trip to Lebanon
In a recent audience, the Pope spoke of his imminent apostolic trip to Lebanon, where he is due to sign the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation of the Special Assembly for the Middle East of the Synod of Bishops, which took place in the Vatican in October 2010.
“I will have the happy opportunity to meet the people and the authorities of Lebanon, as well as the Christians of that dear country, and those who have come from nearby States”, he said… Read more »
An Islam speaker at the International Peace Conference
Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone S.D.B. has sent a message, in the name of the Holy Father, to Cardinal Vinko Puljic, archbishop of Vrhbosna-Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which he greets representatives of Churches, Christian communities and the great world religions, “as well as the population of Sarajevo who are particularly dear to him”, and participants in the twenty-sixth International Meeting for Peace which has been organised by the Sant’Egidio Community and its currently taking place in that city… Read more »

Mother Teresa
A Mass on Wednesday in the ancient church of Santa Maria alla Navicella marked the 15th anniversary of Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s death.
The solemn liturgy was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Comastri, archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica, in a packed church, and enriched by the polyphonies of the imposing choir of the Diocese of Rome. A photo of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta was situated in the sanctuary area… Read more »
Pope back to the Vatican
Benedict XVI resumed his general audiences in the Vatican, having held them at Castelgandolfo during the month of August. WYD Rio de Janeiro 2013
A 12-foot replica of the Cristo Redentor statue of Brazil has been touring Europe as preparations for next year’s World Youth Day (WYD) in Rio de Janeiro are under way.
The replica was presented Friday at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris as part of the “Cristo Redentor For All” exhibition. The event, which celebrates 80 years since the statue was erected, presents exhibitions on the history of the monument from its inception till the present… Read more »
Cardinal Martini
Benedict XVI sent a message to the archbishop of Milan offering condolences upon the death of Cardinal Carlo Martini, who passed today at age 85.
The cardinal had been ill with Parkinson’s for some years.
The Holy Father noted how the cardinal lived his lengthy illness “in serenity of soul and trustful abandonment to the will of the Lord.”
He assured his own “deep participation” in the sorrow of those mourning the Torino native… Read more »
