Lenten Reflections: The Mountains

“Nerfa’ għajnejja lejn l-għoljiet; imnejn se tiġini l-għajnuna?

Fit-tieni Ħadd tar-Randan nisimgħu dwar it-trasfigurazzjoni ta’ Ġesù fuq il-muntanja Tabor.

Il-muntanji u l-għoljiet fil-Bibbja huma msemmija iktar minn ħames mitt darba. U dan mhux b’kumbinazzjoni, iżda għax fil-fidi Lhudija, il-muntanji jikkunsidrawhom bħala l-eqreb li tista’ tkun m’Alla minħabba li kienu jilħqu lejn is-smewwiet, l-eqreb lejn id-dawl. Infatti ħafna ġrajjiet sinifikanti ġraw fuq il-muntanji… Read more »

New beginnings and new friendships for refugees in Malta

Considering the rare occasion of friendships blooming between locals and persons who have found refuge in Malta, non-profit organisation Ħal Far Outreach felt the need to change things up, thus coming up with its Malta Migrant Befriending Programme.

Through this project, the organisation aimed to promote the integration of asylum seekers and refugees into Maltese society by bringing together twelve asylum-seekers, or refugees, with eight long-term Maltese residents during a number of group events.

On Sunday, Newsbook.com.mt was invited to attend the last event of the year-long programme to observe the fruits borne through this project.

Social media coordinator Alena Tokareva spoke to this newsroom, explaining that during the past year, the participants had the opportunity to get to know each other through numerous events once every two weeks… Read more »

Lenten Reflections: The Desert

“Imqar jekk nimxi f’wied mudlam, ma nibżax mill-ħsara, għax inti miegħi.”

L-ewwel Ħadd tar-Randan laqqagħna mar-rakkont ta’ Ġesù fid-deżert tal-Lhudija, li hu magħruf għat-temperaturi estremi tiegħu, u s-sorsi limitati tal-ilma. Hu medda kbira ta’ għoljiet u widien ta’ blat, u ma fihx ramel.

Fil-Bibbja jissemma iktar minn darba. Qabel dar-rakkont naraw lil Ġwanni l-Battista jipprietka propju fid-deżert tal-Lhudija, li fil-Lvant tiegħu nsibu x-Xmara Ġordan, ix-xmara fejn tgħammed Ġesù, u li minnha telaq għad-deżert fejn qatta’ erbgħin jum… Read more »

The Maltese Catholic Action is now 93 years old

Azzjoni Kattolika (VO Number 1743) started in Malta by a small group of University Students on the 5th of April 1929, thanks to the guidance of Fr Danjel Callus. In February 1930 the official statute of the organisation was approved by the Archbishop of that time. From then on, more youth groups started popping up in different parishes. Their aim was to take an active role in conveying the message of the Church and to be of service to others… Read more »
