Donations collected by Caritas Malta in aid of the earthquake victims and their families in Haiti reached a total of €270,391. Caritas Malta said that the people’s generosity has once again surpassed their expectations. The fund has now been closed and the money collected will be transfered to Caritas Internationalis. More information on their mission in Haiti is available on www.caritas.org

The fundraising campaign was iniated on the 14th January, 2010, following the devastating earthquake of January 12th. The collection was made with the approval of  the Archbishop of Malta, Mgr Paul Cremona OP and the Bishop of Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech, who had appealed for the people’s generosity. This is the second largest sum ever collected by Caritas Malta for emergency appeals.
