On Friday 1st April, 2011, the Institute for Research on the Signs of the Times (DISCERN) is organizing the Benjamin Tonna Lecture 2011 on ‘The New Barbarians’. The guest speaker will be Professor Krzysztof Zanussi, Professor of European Film at the European Graduate School, Professor at the Silesian University (Katówice) and Film Director. This event will be held at the Phoenicia Hotel, Floriana, at 7:00 p.m.
KRZYSZTOF ZANUSSI is a Polish producer and film director. He is a Professor of European film at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland, Professor at the Silesian University in Katowice and Cavalier de L’Ordre des Sciences et Lettres. His work presents a compassionate, insightful, and provocative examination of the moral issues that present themselves in everyday life.
Zanussi’s films have received many international awards: the Cavalier’s Cross of the Polonia Restituta Order; the OCIC Award at the Berlin International Film Festival; the Jury Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival; the Silver Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival; the Davide di Donatello Award; the FIPRESCI Prize and the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival; and the Golden St. George Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival.
