On Tuesday, 23rd February, 2010, the Secretariat for Pastoral Activites for Workers organized a seminar on the theme ‘Workers and consumers…in conflict?’.  Archbishop Paul Cremona OP emphasized that all workers have to be responsible. The Archbishop mentioned that social cases of families who cannot afford basic needs still exist, and it is essential for one to understand the causes leading to this.

Archbishop Cremona quoted Pope Benedict XVI in saying that when faced with such a challenge, the task of solving this issue should not be solely undertaken by the Church, but must also be tackled by politicians.  The Archbishop stated that both the worker and the consumer have to be responsible in their actions, and thus, should be treated equally. Archbishop Cremona asked whether we are really free from the threats of consumerism, particularly in view of the substantial number of families facing financial problems.
