Three new parish priests have been appointed for Ħaż-Żabbar Parish, Paola Parish, and Birkirkara’s Santa Marija church.
Archbishop Charles Scicluna appointed Fr Roderick Camilleri as the parish priest of the Church of Our Lady of Graces in Ħaż-Żabbar, Fr David Borg as the parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Paola; and Fr Evan Caruana as the parish priest of St Mary’s Church in Birkirkara.
Meet Fr Roderick Camilleri
Born on 27 January 1984, Fr Roderick Camilleri was ordained priest on 29 June 2012. He embarked on his pastoral work in Kalkara. He has also served in Birzebbuga and was spiritual director of St Benedict College in Kirkop. In 2015, he was appointed parish priest of St Anne’s Church in Marsaskala where he served for seven years.
Meet Fr Evan Caruana
Fr Evan Caruana was born on 2 February 1959, and he was ordained priest on 11 July 1986. He studied at De La Salle College in Birgu before pursuing tertiary studies in philosophy and theology at the University of Malta.
He embarked on pastoral work at the Birżebbuġa parish, before he was appointed parish priest of the Gudja church where he served for 13 years. He then served as the parish priest of Naxxar church for 11 years. For the past eight years he was the parish priest of Ħaż-Żabbar.
Fr Evan Caruana was also given the honorary title of ‘Monsignor’
Mgr Scicluna thanked Fr Reuben Deguara for his pastoral work at Birkirkara parish, who was appointed to head Mater Dei Hospital’s chapel.
Ħaż-Żabbar’s parish church includes some 19,340 parishioners, while Birkirkara’s and Paola’s parish churches include 3,100 and 2,300 parishioners respectively.
Meet Fr David Borg
Fr David Borg was ordained priest in 2020. His first pastoral experience was at the Tarxien parish church as a deacon. He later served as deputy parish priest for a total of four years. In 2020 he was appointed chaplain for St Thomas More middle school at Ħal Tarxien. He also began leading HOPE – a support group aimed at helping individuals who have undergone personal separation. In 2022, he started pastoral work at the rehabilitation centre in Ħal Farruġ.
Archbishop Charles Scicluna thanked Fr John Muscat for his pastoral work at the Paola parish church as he entrusted him with pastoral work at St Vincent de Paul’s chapel.
