On Monday, 21st June 2010, around 130 youths who are doing voluntary service both in Malta and abroad, were invited to meet Archbishop Paul Cremona during an activity which was held at the University Chapel.  This activity was organised by the KDZ and the AVL, and the theme was ‘Good master, what must I do to gain eternal life?’ (Mk 10:17).  The session was animated by CAM youths and there were also individual youths who offered reflections on the meaning of the term ‘voluntary service’.

In his message, the Archbishop stated that voluntary service is an example of how one shows true love towards his fellow man.  He said that the voluntary worker, like God, gives himself to others. In so doing, he represents the Church which is the fruit of God’s great love for each and every person, irrespective of his nationality, race or belief.  The Archbishop urged the volunteers to focus their attention towards the person during their time of service.  He encouraged them to seek God in every person they encounter during their work.   In so doing, the volunteer would be showing due respect and acknowledging the true dignity of the human person.

Archbishop Cremona presented every organization and volunteer with a missionary rosary beads, together with a book on the rosary which was published for children.  The aim of this gift is to help each volunteer share the prayer of the rosary with any children he or she may encounter throughout their work this summer.

The meeting was followed by some time devoted to fellowship. A similar meeting will be held on 1st October when the voluntary workers will be welcomed back to Malta.
